...if SBFY wants to judge an entire culture on the behaviour of its most radical elements, then why not judge, say, US culture on the behaviour of its most radical elements? Sauce for the goose and all that.........

Hey,I don't think I'm comfortable being judged based on the behavior of some of my whackier fellow citizens.Like those who choose to raise their children in fundamental Jesu camps...no thanks,I'll pass.

You're right, I shouldn't judge cultures for stoning adulterers, beheading "sorcerors," hanging homosexuals, shooting eloping lovers, amputating petty thieves' hands, decapitating hostages with knives, etc.  I'm so culturally insensitive and ethnocentric, because I don't see a connection between the lone acts of our crazies to their widespread acts of barbarism, which are written into their laws per Sharia.  Gee, I feel horrible.  How dare I be so insensitive?  [:(]

the difference between psychos in the US who kill abortionists and psychos over there who execute everyone they run into for any number of reasons is because it's so widespread, sanctioned by the state in many cases, and it's totally acceptable.
someone who kills an abortionist will get a trial and with that the possibility of going to jail or being executed themselves. not the case in the middle east.

does anyone remember that case in germany ( i think it was germany) where a woman petitioned a court for divorce because her husband was beating her, and the court said "well in his native land of morocco, it's okay to beat your wife per the religious law" and they DIDN'T grant her the divorce?

sharia IS the generally accepted law of most muslim countries, to varying degrees of extremity. and they tend to like to carry this law with them and try to force it on the people who live in the countries they immigrate to. there was a huge strike in new york by cab drivers who didn't want to pick up people with dogs (not even seeing eye dogs) or women dressed a certain way, even though they're in America now and we do things differently here. supposedly they believe in the American way, but once they pass their tests and get legalized, they want to change things.
they don't CARE about our culture. we're infidels to them. they don't even have to tell the truth or honor agreements with us. that is also in their religion.

...which is an admission that some do not. Therefore while you were so busy condemning the whole of Islamic culture, you were also condemning the moderate forces within that culture.

It wasn't that long ago that, in the US, you could get hanged from a tree for being the wrong colour. Are you seriously suggesting that gay bashing never happens in the US? The US has, in recent months and years, been holding people without trial on hearsay evidence. Some of which has been confirmed, but some has been proven to be false.

These are all barbaric acts as well. Now, i believe that the US is, at heart, an honourable country. It can make mistakes, some lasting generations, but ultimately it can right those wrongs. i also believe the same of Islamic culture. Because, at the heart of the matter, is the fact that we are all humans........and humans FTW.

Even countries that practice Sharia law use different degrees, for instance, Malaysia is more relaxed in its approach than Saudi Arabia.

Please leave me out of this. The only thing the Taliban need right now is the perspective of the muzzle of a tank. Not even the Sunni path would want to see Islam revert back to the 12th century.

LOL. Mike, they do "honor" killings in the U.S.!
That's just the ones that we find out about. How many have they done that the cops have never found out about?
