DHS is blaming returning Veterans for joining radical right wing
groups and their poster boy is Timothy McVay.
and they offer no proof just opinion.

If Obama approves of this he is an anti-veteran jerk.

I served 15 years [62-76]until my knees gave out

I would never re-inlist under his command

angelikaJ -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 7:45:52 AM)

This is the article you are referencing and this is part of what it says:

"...The Homeland Security assessment specifically says that "rightwing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to exploit their skills and knowledge derived from military training and combat."
Jerry Newberry, director of communications for the Veterans of Foreign Wars, said the vast majority of veterans are patriotic citizens who would not join anti-government militias.
"As far as our military members go, I think that the military is a melting pot of society. So you might get a few, a fractional few, who are going to be attracted by militia groups and other right-wing extremists," he said.
"We have to remember that the people serving in our military are volunteers, they do it because they love their country, and they believe in what our country stands for," he said. "They spent their time in the military defending our Constitution, so the vast majority of them would be repulsed by the hate groups discussed in this report."
The Homeland Security report cited a 2008 FBI report that noted that a small number of returning military veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have joined extremist groups.
The FBI report said that from October 2001 through May 2008 "a minuscule" number of veterans, 203 out of 23,000, had joined groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, Aryan Nations, the National Socialist Movement, the Creativity Movement, the National Alliance and some skinhead groups."

And the OP wants to lay this at President Obama's feet....incensed over a perceived bias against veterans.The bias shown towards our President apparently never enters the mind of this particular veteran. I will agree with him on one point,I'm outraged too.....any guesses as to whom I'm my outrage is directed at?
One last question here,do people really enlist to serve a particular President...or to serve their Country ?

pahunkboy -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 8:50:31 AM)

Silly poster.  Dont you know that the ONLY people that matter are WALL STREET people?

Anyone else is not equal.

ienigma777 -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 9:08:04 AM)

Okay; just quit 'beating around the Bush'.....say it like it is. Eight years piror to Mr. Obama.....who was it at the helm that drove the country and the world to economic ruin; while his buddies, on 'Greed Street' walked away scott free with billions......yet this OP wants to lay it on Mr. Obama.
Have you wondered that after 9-11 for eight years we had nothing but Saddam, Iraq, BenLaden, HomeLand Security, Terrorists, AlQuaida, Taliban...in the news, 24/7 365, in every media....virtually nothing of economic interest.....NOW, the terrorist, Iraq War (Bush's War) is hardly a topic of interest. Suddenly.....we're broke and....quess who comes with our solution....and bails out....who; certainly not the US Common Citizen Worker Guy and Gal.
Respectfully, the OP must be suffering from Shell Shock.

He would be fortunate to not have you re-enlist under his command with this attitude.  Perhaps you could use some of your well earned pension to hire angelikaJ to decipher articles for you so you don't waste space with hysterical posts like this. [8|]

Oh let him post Scarlet,we all need a little comic releif every now and then....

Emperor1956 -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 9:26:00 AM)

Pete,  thank you for your service to our country.  It was a valuable gift and I am sincere in my appreciation.

However, having honorably served our country does not make you either the arbiter of who is or is not a patriot, nor does it excuse substituting emotion and sloppy thinking for rationality.  I think you misread the news item (if you read it at all, perhaps you were reacting to a "Fox News-like" biased summary?).

As the lovely angelika points out, what was being discussed was NOT at all "returning veterans joining radical right wing groups" but that those who would seek to subvert and terrorize our country may target veterans in recruiting attempts.  Nothing was said that these targeting attempts would be more successful because the recruits were vets.

Awesome post, Emperor.

And Pete...i also thank you

slvemike4u -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 10:15:48 AM)

Thank you Emperor and Holly,for reminding me I can , at times be an  ass  while I still vehemetly disagree with the tone of the OP....my first post should have led with the sentiment expressed in your post's.Allow me to rectify that.....Thanks for your service Mr.Pete....as to your post,well.....

scarlethiney -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 10:31:11 AM)

Agreed Mike. What would we do without the drama [;)]

MrrPete -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 10:54:19 AM)

I don't really care what you people think I fought for the freedom of speech and those that want to shut me up can sit on it.

It's my choice whom I will serve and I'm of the age I can't even  if I wanted to serve.

To those that said thanks; You're more than welcome

In my opinion Obama is still a jerk

I can't go to a Tea Party so I have my teabag hanging from my mirror in support

kittinSol -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 11:00:07 AM)

Heard a funny question on the radio earlier today: are those 'tea parties' a grass roots movement, or mere Astroturf?

outlier -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 11:01:51 AM)

Thank you angelikaJ
Once again we have proof that brains and beauty are not mutually exclusive.

Pete, I also thank you for your service to our country.

I wish that you had held on to the careful thinking that caused
you to write "If" Obama approves of this. That sort of careful
thought is our best defense against those who would spread lies
and distortions to gain power.

Yep,your entitled to your opinion,which you posted on-line....which entitles others to  respond .Whether or not you care is irrelevant,just the way a public forum works.
I'm willing to bet each of us have different criteria as to what constitutes a "jerk".Have a nice day.

servantforuse -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 12:59:15 PM)

In a nutshell this is what's going on here. The administration is trying to dampen the tax protests going on in 500 locations around the country. They are trying to blame them on the radical right. It won't work. Even in the 2nd most liberal  city in the country, our own Madison, Wi. 29 % of those at the State Capital rally are registered democrats. Another 25 % are independant..

slvemike4u -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 1:21:12 PM)

Madison Wi. is the second most liberal city in the country? Who's first? By what criteria ?

Owner59 -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 2:38:30 PM)

The Teabaggers really don`t want to be hijacked by republicans ,Fox News or anti-Obama types,but it`s happening anyway.

The un-hinged elements showing up at the rallies,questioning Obama`s citizenship,calling for succession or calling the President a fascist/nazi/etc., are just disgruntled republican sore loser types.

The tea bagger event in Morristown NJ was more like a political rally for a republican running in the primary here,a clown named Lonigan.I`m renovating a house near the Green and on my 1st pass at ten AM,there was a small army of Lonigan`s people putting in "Vote For Lonigan" signs.

At lunch around 2,there was no other signage there but Lonigan`s.The street was lined.You couldn`t put in another Lonigan lawn sign without blocking one already up.

thornhappy -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 3:48:49 PM)

Fox News, alas, plays at work all day (with the audio off.)  They've pushed this event for about a week, given contacts out, had on-air talent talk it up, and then reported on the events.  About as "unbiased" as ABC talking up Disney World on the morning shows and then in their sitcoms.

Fox is a political organization.  If the DNC & CNN (or, horrors, MSNBC) tried something similar, Republicans would foam at the mouth like werewolves.

subrob1967 -> RE: I'M Outraged (4/15/2009 5:42:25 PM)

I love how "Anti ILLEGAL Immigration" becomes "Anti Immigration"

Liberals make me fucking sick.
