All I use for anything overhead/in the ceiling are what is called a "Sammy Screw". They have a wood thread that screws into a joist (or anything else) and have a female 3/8 thread on the bottom. We use them all the time for work for hanging pipe, and they have an 1100 lb vertical pullout strength. I use only welded 3/8 eyebolts, even though they are never used for suspension, I just prefer the safety factor. What I really love about them is they can be countersunk into the drywall, so all thats visible (without an eye of course) is the small female thread. They're available in 2-1/2 and 3" shank length, I prefer the 3" for maximum strength. You can't get them at a big-box or hardware store, you'll need to go to a plumbing/pipe supplier. If they'll hold a 21 foot length of water-filled 4" steel pipe, I trust them to hold my wife!
