You're suggesting that it's okay to censor or to blacklist speakers then, so long as you disagree with them. Especially if it can be established that they held a controversial opinion about something once?

No I'm saying,as a matter of fact shouting that Congress is not required to let every loon with an opinion have a forum. Now I will ask you whether or not you believe that The Congress Of The United States of America is required to let every crackpot with a theory....present such theories..... Hardly censorship in my book more like the proper vetting of nut jobs. LOL... During the initial onset of the AIDs epidemic, everyone was floating ideas on how to try and stop it, and the idea of quarantines is as old as time itself. Hardly that controversial, especially since at the time that it was tabled for discussion there weren't nearly as many people who had it as there are now.

While I didn't feel like wading through the whole post, this caught my eye: ketchup as a vegetable, Ok. Tomatoes are a fruit. When Reagan was in office the school lunch program considered ketchup to qualify as a serving of vegetables.

The other day on NPR a piece included them interviewing random people at a baseball game. I think the problem the GOP is having was well summed up in one interview. When they asked one guy if he liked Obama he just said he was a Republican (which kind of evaded the question). When asked if he had anything to thank Obama for he did concede he had extended his unemployment benifites an additional 14 weeks. It must be hard to continue being a Republican when you're living off of government programs that the GOP opposes funding.

messyhair, No, I think they are referring to the 2000 election where a recount was called for, but the GOP shut that process down, and Bush was installed by a republican member of the Supreme Court. As you may recall, the count, on a national level, was as close as the Franken/ Colman race in MN is today. Bush got in because his brother Jeb was in control of Florida, as governor. In that election over 8,000 voters in Dade county were discounted/and destroyed, and huge numbers of people were turned away from the polls in Florida because their names "sounded" like those of conviced felons. And because of that, we have two wars, an empty treasury, out phones tapped, the US considered to be a torture state by the rest of the world, more pollution than ever, a huge difference between what the average guy pays in taxes and the pittance that the rich folk do, a drowned city... Oh, yeah... and imagine what might have happened if "Junior" had actually done his job and read the fucking intelligence breifing that week of 9/6/01. Instead of handing it back to his aide and saying, "There! You've covered your ass."

To the poster remembering ketchup as a vegetable: I am 5'2" and weigh 127 pounds at the age of 50. This is true, because I DO count ketchup as the food item it is. And mayonaisse even more, etc. etc. And salad dressing. If more Americans AND American PARENTS paid closer attention to what they were putting in their and their children's mouths, we wouldn't see so damn many FAT people! Porker elementary school children. I think the ketchup and the mayo should be eliminated!!!

That was when the Democrat Congress cut $1 billion from child-nutrition funding and gave the USDA 90 days to come up with new standards for school districts to meet that budget. So, with the number of kids that would throw their veggies away, it was an option that was tossed out there, but with only 90 days there was no time for a higher review of the option. So l.iberals ever since pin that on Reagan without mentioning the whole story. Classic Liberals. :p

The election that an Independant Committee after concluded that under most recount scenarios Bush still would have won it?

Reading your posts and those of a few others, I realise why the GOP is unraveling. Its members and supporters seem to be incapable of acknowledging their responsibilities. All I read is a constant pinpointing to 'the liberals' and 'the Democratic congress' and 'the left'. It's quite obvious by now that one of the reasons the GOP is going through such a crisis in confidence is because at the very time when the country needs a strong bipartisan effort to get it out of the dump, most of the opposition party seems to be able to dois little else than bitch and moan about its own mistakes by trying to pass them off as somebody else's. So much for personal responsibility - Reagan does something unspeakable to the youth of the nation, so it's the Democratic Congress' fault. Now, where have we heard that kind of line before?
