I usually get a reply. Perhaps you are not actually reading the profile and responding to
"the individual". If not then as John says it is the equivalent of "Hey buddy". I actually chat with a number of people I have met here that live too far away so We may never meet but we have fun anyway.

servingwench80 -> RE: MANNERS (2/1/2006 9:15:15 PM)

There was one time where I got an email from someone politely asking why I had not answered him. I went back through my emails and didn't see it in there anywhere. So I told him that, and he resent what he says he had originally sent. I read it and for the life of me I can't imagine I would have deleted it, and I didn't remember ever reading it before. The polite request for a reason for no reply probably scored as many points as the original email would have. Just the fact that someone could handle no reply in a calm and rational way is rather unusual.

But one of my main reasons for not answering some emails (other than the usual things like childish posts or people who obviously haven't read my profile... or times when I read theirs and we are SO obviously not what each other is looking for) is the replies that I get when I tell them no. I've had to go back and forth with people quite a few times before they finally get it through their thick skulls that they're not gettin any.
I'm sure someone is going to tell me that if they don't get it after I politely tell them no, I could block them. But wouldn't that be considered rude too? Or do people generally agree that if someone tries to push it, they deserve whatever blocking they get?

nokkers -> RE: MANNERS (2/1/2006 10:24:46 PM)

i reply to every email i receive...even the ones that are ill mannered, crass, blatant, or simple. i refuse to be anything less than polite.
always.

cheers
julie

*Laughs* What? Bear? You mean I'm not really meant to wander around the house speaking "L33T" (Leet for those that don't know. :) ) Well damn. Neets and I could have had fun with that.

See, it's no fun living in a house full of dominants...:P

"Leet speak" is a term for "Elite speak" or what computer nerds (usually males under 20) love typing in- making words out of numbers and using net code. People who use it think they are very cool but the only people who think they are cool are the ones who actually use it. Everyone else considers it dorky.

"Elite" becomes "Leet" becomes "L33T"

Kinda like people who actually SAY "LOL" in real life.

LA, thank you so much for clarifying that for me.

but...

there are people that say LOL out loud?

Isara -> RE: MANNERS (2/3/2006 5:32:55 AM)

Yeah, sadly yourMissTress, there are, one of my work collegues used to say it, he used to also say "w00t" Which roughly translates to Yay and "ph33r" But he would say it as "P.H.3.3.R" Which, I discovered meant "fear."

He'd look for reasons to use it.

He also was an idiot, but that's neither here nor there. ;)

From http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A787917

quote:

* A = 4
* E = 3
* I = 1
* O = 0

However l33t is a very flexible 'language' and you can go from this very basic l33t, to ultra 1337 by being creative; a few examples:

* O = ()
* U = |_|
* T = 7
* D = |)
* W = \/\/
* S = $

There is no agreed-upon way to write l33t, so it's up to you whether or not to go with light l33t, medium 1337, hard |_337 or even ultra |_33¯|¯.

What?!! You mean the other subs expect people to read their profile and actually respond to the person?!!

Wow! What an original concept!! I may have to start expecting that too![:-][8|]
