YW! It is my house cleaning music lol, makes me get up and dance with the vacuum. I saw them open for Phish and was just amazed at their exuberance on stage.. very cool. A lot of instrument sharing and just a great blend of energy.

I really miss being able to crank up the stereo, in many ways apartment living sucks rocks.

I guess I would have to go back to my 'toons' which encompasses second generation two tone SKA, rocksteady, and of course the reggae of Trojan Records.

You have people like Harry J. All Stars with Liquidator, Bob and Marcia with Young, gifted and black, and their version of Band of gold, and Barbara Jones with her version of Just when I needed you most.

There's Nicky Thomas with Love of the common people, The Upsetters with The Return of Django, Toots and the Maytals with 54 46 was my number, The Meoldians with The rivers of Babylon, Ken Boothe with Everything I own and also Crying over you.

Then you have Trevor Walters with this cover of Lionel Richie's Stuck on you.

Punk rock. Just sorry I missed it when it was still new. But glad I caught it when I did. The music spoke to me then, and it changed my life in both good and bad ways.

Bach's solo cello concertos by YoYo Ma  [:D]

I live for music, so, for me anything but country applies to this question.  But for the most part, the ones that just got my attention instantly were Funk, Rockabilly (I adore Brian Setzer), Blues, Jazz, Clapton...  Clapton is referred to as "God" for a reason, Paddycore..  I love paddycore. It's just so unique.  Pretty much all music to me though has it's own elements that make it what it is and uniquely it's own.  In fact, I'm currently streaming my online station.  If you want, just cmail me and I'll get you the address to listen to.  It has... uh... everything.  I might even take requests. :)

Nice thread. I'm still backlogged on processing all the other suggestions & links of others. Thanks much OP & all you other participants!

The most recent 'new' piece of music that has caused chills to run up my spine is this:

'Walking On Air' by Kerli

& I think, stretching my mind back to tender times, that the first song that I 'remember' givin' me the chills would probably have been either 'A Day In The Life' by the Beatles, or 'Mr Blue Sky' by ELO . .. . . [:D]

AngelGeena -> RE: Have you ever been introduced to a certain sound of music that just blows you away? (4/21/2009 12:48:07 PM)

ELO - now thats a blast from the past

I was just recently introduced to this:

Hi DK...how do you get it to link like you did where you have the artist name and song instead of just the generic link?

Yep, ELO. I bought a copy of that song off iTunes in the last coupla years & it continues to brighten my day whenever it shows up on my 'pod . . . .. .

Love Dead Can Dance, yeah . . . . . Good clip, that.

Okay, as to the linkage thingie . . . . . Up above this little dialogue box, when you're in the 'reply' function or in FR down below, where you can bold things, & italicize & change the color of the text? There should be a button that says 'link' . . .

Here's how to use that feature:

First highlight the text . . . . . So I had typed out 'Walking On Air' by Kerli in the body of my message, & I highlighted that . .. .

Then click the 'link' button while that text is highlighted . .. . You should get a small pop-up box that has the cursor blinking in the box for the URL of the link you want to share . . . . .

You'll need to go get & copy the link, & then paste it into that little dialogue box's appropriate space . .. .

Hit 'OK' in the 'link' pop-up . . . . .

I usually 'preview' when I do this, click thru the link in the preview, make sure it all works before I publish the posting, FYI . . . . .

Please feel free to ask for more explanation, if you'd like . . .. .

I was also stunned with the Big Band Music album that Chicago came out with back in 95.

This here is a sound that I never saw comming.
