Texture of elk will probably be siimilar to deerhide, but deerhide is pretty damn thiin for anything but a warm-up flogger, IMO. By comparison, my elk flogger is well up there on the thud scal, and that's with only twenty-odd falls. I've handled and experimented with a doehide flogger with twice that many tails and it is still only a lightweight toy, though it's possible to spin it up to sting, it still has no authority. Anything purporting to be elk that is not at least twice a thick/sturdy/strong a leather as deer from the same provider—yeah, there was a mistake, although it is marginally possible that they were deceived when they bought it. But a flogger maker who doesn't know his/her leather better than that is not anyone I'd want to buy from. Lady Delilah Deb P.s. For a visual example of floggers of many diff. hides, you might peruse WIAN Studios, Pacific NW flogger maker
