I’ve just started learning about impact play looking into what to get etc. My sub kind of jumped the gun and ordered a couple from details toys. She ordered two floggers, one deer and the other elk. One of the ones they sent was the wrong color, they said sorry they were working on another of the same kind at the time and got them mixed up. I’m wondering if they also mixed up the material. The pattern on the leather is very slightly different but otherwise the leathers seem to be exactly the same. So my question is should these floggers be basically identical? One is listed as low intensity and the other medium intensity, I was expecting more of a difference

I can't say that I know about elk leather for sure, but I would expect it to be pretty similar to deer. All the deer leather I've seen has been very soft. Elk are a LOT larger, and with their superior strength may have a thicker or tougher hide, so it may not be quite as soft, but I doubt that it would be a lot different. Just my guess.

All the elk leather I have seen was much thicker and heavier than deer. Deer is usually garment weight, 2-3 oz (about 1/8" thick). Elk usually runs at least 6-8 oz. (Around 3/16-1/4" ). Both are usually very soft. I would expect to see some difference, yes.

Texture of elk will probably be siimilar to deerhide, but deerhide is pretty damn thiin for anything but a warm-up flogger, IMO. By comparison, my elk flogger is well up there on the thud scal, and that's with only twenty-odd falls. I've handled and experimented with a doehide flogger with twice that many tails and it is still only a lightweight toy, though it's possible to spin it up to sting, it still has no authority.

Anything purporting to be elk that is not at least twice a thick/sturdy/strong a leather as deer from the same provider—yeah, there was a mistake, although it is marginally possible that they were deceived when they bought it. But a flogger maker who doesn't know his/her leather better than that is not anyone I'd want to buy from.

Ive purchased four floggers from Details and was involved with others purchasing two more. All were very good quality and the people I spoke with were very knowledgeable and helpful. I'm sure if You contact them about it they would be honest and upfront with You. Scotty

Elk will be thicker but if tanned properly will feel just about the same as deer. Elk will also be just a little stiffer then deer but not by much. On a side note if they both are "brown" the elk will be darker in color then the deer.
