candystripper -> Death of Coretta Scott King (1/31/2006 3:28:37 PM)

Yesterday, we lost Coretta Scott King, a wonderful woman who never ceased carrying on her famous husband's work of non-violent social change. In all her works and speeches and awards, i most admire the founding of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta, Georgia. I myself have not seen it, but would love it, if only for the famous dateline memorial in front.

i hope Y/you will all join me in mourning the passing of a truely great American woman.

Geez V, how can you make such a statement? MLK's demonstrations were as peaceful as could be. It was the hateful, emotionally immature and insecure protesters to MLK's peaceful demonstrations that were responsible for the violence.

That was a sad time in America, and IMHO, exposed the true nature of the predominantly white protesters to MLK's peaceful demonstrations.

Some shit has to be stirred up if a whole group of human beings are treated in inhumane ways especially for something as trivial as the presence of greater amounts of melanin. It is unfortunate that his presence incited so much hatred and fear, that he had to be killed, but it most certainly was not because he advocated violence.

This is not to say I am King's biggest fan. I've read many other social activists I respect more.
May Mrs Scott-King rest in peace hopefully in a better place. [:(] M

When researching Mrs. King, i leant she and her children appealed to Clinton and Reno for an investigation of King's assaination, not believing a lone gunman acted alone.

A limited review was conducted, and whatever evidence was provided, the District Attorney where King died would not reopen the case.

Mrs. King and her children sued a resturant owner for wrongful death in connection with the assaination and won.

Interesting, eh?
