Is it a big fashion no no to wear black socks with black sneakers? I went for the layered look with black and turquois tank tops and shorts but I didn't have any turquois socks so I just wore black. Someone told me I should have worn white instead even though it would've clashed with my whole outfit. Need some opinions please.

When i noted Your post on "As The Collar Turns" all i could imagine was the post originating from a ninety y/o man wearing black socks and black shoes and his shorts hicked to kindom come!!!
Since You are a female and on the younger side(thirties being the new twenties, so its' said), i would not advise black socks w/ black shoes unless You had colored tights underneath, or the shoes in question happen to be six inch heels.
i would have opted for a colorful wedge(with blue in it), or sandal with a decent heel, minus all socks ..... makes shorts rock, imho!!!

Black goes with everything.  You don't want your feet to stand out unless you're wearing killer shoes.  Keep socks neutral and in a color that won't clash with your outfit.  The black socks matched your outfit, so you're good.  White socks would have looked out of place.

~FR~

I (as a man) have done it before with nary a second glance. A lot of guys do, actually, and it doesn't seem to be kosher to wear anything *BUT* black socks with black shoes unless they're sneakers, and then it's just a choice. I'd say that if it matches your outfit well... then the only person who's going to notice is someone who's *looking* for a problem in your outfit, in my experience ;)

Do not take fashion advice from anyone who suggests white socks with black sneakers.

Black sneakers are a fashion faux pas in and of themselves.

personally i'd have gone for no socks. I wouldn't be seen dead in flat shoes either so it would have been killer heels for me lol.

What kind of socks?
Thats important. Where they knee socks? Bobby socks? Tennis socks?

With knee socks um,  I wouldn't wear  them black or white with shorts. Tennis socks or crew style I would have gone with black, folded down.

ok- per a woman.
I see.

I tend to prefer socks as the gym shoes get stinky. so  the no show socks could work.   Maybe an ankle bracelet could add flare.

lately- when I put on pants- my toe rips a hole in the knee. I hate that.

Other then socks and underwear,  I shop at thrift stores.  I also fluctuate in weight- size- so I learned to not throw out pants.  One problem- is I ruin clothes by working around the house.  I plan on just relaxing then- I decide to do a task- you know just a little bit. lol

Oh- I do trim my nails- the toe nail also has ripped sheets.

*I* wear white socks with black tennis shoes T.T every day... (Too many dyes in colored socks... my skin reacts, and black tennis shoes are cheapest in size 16 T.T)

EDIT: No, black socks do not kill people... at least, not to my knowledge

Personally, I would not toss in a glaring colour like white if there was no white in the outfit.  I would have gone for no socks (or those anklets that don't show) or black ones.
