I've made this point before: yes you have the traits of your star sign because that is what people around you have told you throughout your life. You are told the traits of your star sign constantly so you emulate them. If your name has a meaning you probably emulate that too.

What of those who knew nothing of their birth sign or the meaning of their name, until they were much older; or even, completely disagreed until certain circumstances changed?

People should have the truly blank page in terms of how their character develops without being told otherwise through star signs and what not.

Seems like mission impossible, considering parental and environmental influences.

Otherwise they’ll just justify their character flaws as a reflection of their star sign stating inability to change them.

There is an up side and a down side to any character trait; I found my investigations to be very useful in identifying and strenghing weaknesses. Though, admittedly, I looked into myself much further then just my sun sign.

How many people in the west indentify with the Chinese zodiac? Not many until they saw what it meant to be born under the year of this or that because it was written in such a complementary way.
quote:

Horse people are active and energetic. They got plenty of sex-appeal and know how to dress. Horses love to be in the crowd, maybe that is why they can usually be seen in such occasions like concerts, theaters, meetings, sporting occasions, and of course, parties.
The horse is very quick-witted and is right in there with you before you have had the chance to finish what you are saying: he's on to the thought in your mind even before you've expressed it. In general, the Horse is gifted. But in truth he is really more cunning than intelligent - and he knows that. That is probably why, most of the horse people lack confidence.
Chinese believe that because horses are born to race or travel, all Horse people invariably leave home young. The Horse despises being pressured to act for the good of the group or made to feel guilty. No matter how integrated he seems to be, a Horse's inner self remains powerfully rebellious. Although they have boundless energy and ambition, Horses have a hard time belonging.
The Horse is hot-blooded, hot-headed and impatient. He is a bit of an egoist, well, selfish sometimes, that it is rare for him to interest himself in any problems except his own. And though this egoist works only for himself and for his own success, his work nevertheless benefits everybody.
The Horse is a worker, adepts at handling money and a good financier. But unfortunately, he is also famous for suddenly losing interest on something. In his relationship with opposite sex, the Horse is weak. He will give up everything for love.
Being born a Horse, there are many contradictions in his character. Horses are proud yet sweet-natured, arrogant yet oddly modest in their approach to love, envious but tolerant, conceited yet humble. They want to belong, yet they are burdened by their need for independence. They need love and crave intimacy yet often feel cornered, pressured. But the truth is, the Horse is an individual, who depends only on his wits and his labor to get what he wants.

After reading the first couple of lines of that I'd love to be a horse, interesting though that some of it contradicts with typical Libra traits, I'm also a Libra so who is right? The fact the different systems have such an overlap in who is what according to the dates means that they don't support one another at all since you could be a horse or other creature and also various distinctly different star signs of the western zodiac.

Yes it depends on a lot of factors but some factors can easily be removed from the equation.

Yes but people need a self critical attitude or they'll just take the positives and ignore the negatives, meaning no room for improvement. I'd hazard a guess that if you see yourself as having certain traits good and bad that simply means you can recognise who you are better than some other people regardless of if those traits agree or disagree with superstition. When I compare myself to other people I am looking at what we have in common and what we don't which means I am looking at who I am not just who the other person is. This is all that looking into your star sign does, it makes you reflect on who you are.

No. I'm a Leo and it doesn't fit me at all.
My ex husband and my  owner are both born on the same day of the year yet completely (thankfully) different.

If a person looks hard enough I'm sure they can find common elements  but in general it is not something that I believe in.

i'm a leo also.  [:)]

and when you read a general leo profile, no it doesnt fit me.  but once i had a detailed star chart drawn up, it fit me very well.  so its a little bit of both to me.

Do you share any character traits typically associated with those of the sign of the zodiac you were born under? Do other people notice or pick up on these traits?

Just how typical are you of your Sun sign?

Yes Stella, though I have fought my natural traits for years, I now accept they are part of me, all the going against others saw through. But of course I saw the negative aspects and sought to change them, which on the whole was not that good for me. Now it is a true wish to go to skin art and get a tattoo of that dreaded arachnid and there accept I am what I am. I am what I am, but now accepted, I am aware and careful to not let the negative aspects take hold, something which fails miserably when at times I vere towards drunk.

I once was told by a US citzen friend of an obscure African faith that what we are as the zodiac suggests, is not the whole of what we are, Our job in life is to transcend the nature of ourselves and become something better, knowing what we are gives us the start of the journey. We are natural creatures, but what sets us apart from the rest of nature is the ability to understand and move beyond what we are, it is our job to become better than what we were. If not, then we are no more advanced than a blade of grass.

and we all know what happens to blades of grass.[8|]

I am confused, how else would they be able to identify, if they were not to read what it says?

I don’t really remember how they are worded, it’s been a long time since I’ve read one, but I don’t remember thinking “yea me!” probably more like “ah, hell”.

The difference between the two, is that one focuses on a person’s sun sign, (how others see you), the other is supposed to be a combination between the person’s sun sign and some type of lunar cycle, (lunar, dealing with emotions). I would recomend a person view thier whole chart, not just the snips that the above readings offer, then decide if it makes sense, and personally, would use the previous mentioned Sidereal astrology.

Not meant to pick on you, but this is an example of what I had in mind, when I mentioned influences. I grew up believing there was something wrong with me, because of the 'undesirable' traits, astrology taught me they are not bad traits, just ones that I didn't have under control, or misused.

I agree that attempting to understand others, and the differences between, is also an excellent method to gain insight to self; but I think what you describe is best used to understand what things people might be doing, while astrology, best describes the ‘whys’.

Both can be just as unproductive, when used improperly.
