I am planning my 2006 and really would like to consider a national convention/event. You know, something thought provoking and decadent and inspiring and fun and informative and delicious. For those convention junkies out there, what are some of the top choices? (I can google them, if I just have any clue where to start.)

Considering I have Vegas with my sister, St Louis with short people, and Atlanta and DC for work -- I figure I may have already started thinking/planning too late.

I will be attending Beat Me in StL, my first national event, in St.Louis this spring. I have heard some really great things about some of the presenters. stl3.com should get you to the sight for it.

That is actually very close to me and several people in my area are going. I may do that, but I guess I wasn't sure how it compared to events across the nation.

Folsom Street Fair, Folsom Fringe and Leather week in San Francisco. Always held the last weekend of September. We have been there the last two years and already have our reservation for 2006. If you want more information and details send us an email on the other side.

Black Rose is a real good place to go. Not sure yet if they are going to have a BR2006. They had to cancel last year due to the host hotel.
First time in year's they didn't do the annual event.

Of course if you want to learn there is always the Leather Leadership Conference.

Just keep in mind that LLC is about leadership and organization. It's not the place for someone who wants to learn how to throw a singletail or tie someone up. Classes are on topics like maintaining membership, handling zoning issues and handling the press. There's no official party and no vendors.

This year... New York City

Cool Maybe we should talk...I would love to find a friend to attend with so as not to be alone ( I really hate doing new things alone). Plus I would love to find someone to room with and split some of the cost.

BR 2006 is definitely on, first weekend of December (which IMO is unfortunate in timing, but good for locals).

My suggestions are Leather Retreat or Camp Crucible or Dark Odyssey Summer Camp if you want to do something over the summer. That way you get the convention experience PLUS a vacation experience PLUS a much larger cross-section of alternative lifestyles than just a kink/bdsm event.

Oh and as a PS you will see in my journal that every few months I post the upcoming alternative lifestyles conventions coming up for the next few months. Well, not ALL of them, I know I miss some and don't always include extraneous things. For example, the Womyn's Winter Bash in Atlanta that I will be at isn't included even though it's in Feb. I didn't find out about it until I posted the list.

Here is my list for Feb:

<A href=" http://www.sinsationsinleather.com/ "> SINSations In Leather </A>
Pansexual BDSM Educational Event that will take place the weekend of February 3-5, 2006. The event will take place in a newly renovated hotel in the Chicago area just 20 minutes from O'Hare International Airport. Top notch presenters from all over the country will be offering classes on a wide variety of kinky topics.

<A href=" http://www.polyliving.com/index3.html "> Poly Living 2006 </A>
February 3-5, 2006 Philadelphia, PA
Once again, this February, join polyamorous folks from all over the country as we descend upon the Wyndham Franklin Plaza hotel in Philadelphia for Poly Living 2006

<A href=" www.bcpl.net/~wilsonr/ "> Farpoint </A>
(Feb 17-19 '06)
Marriott's Hunt Valley Inn, Hunt Valley MD. Guests: Harve Bennett, Penny Johnson Jerald, Robert Aspirin, Jody Lynn Nye, Jack Stauffer, Prometheus Radio Theatre, The Great Luke Ski, Terry Rioux. Memb: $50, more later. Info: Farpoint Enterprises, Inc., 11708 Troy Ct., Waldorf MD 20601; website: www.bcpl.net/~wilsonr/

<A href=" www.playcate.com "> Playcate Conventions </A>
Myrtle Beach, SC February 16-19, 2006
Web: www.playcate.com The annual Playcate couples convention is a landmark event of it's type to take place in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The theme of the event, Shagging on the Beach, embraces the essence of fun and general passion for life that defines couples in our exceptional lifestyle. Meet couples from your hometown, from distant cities, from Canada and other countries from around the globe, in a captivating weekend of seminars, on and off premise parties, multiple festive party rooms, a dungeon, and three of the most outrageous theme dances you'll ever see. One thing for sure… you won't get lost in the crowd, as we've limited this event to a total of 200 couples. We know there are larger conventions, which for some can be overwhelming, but a small event such as ours is much more intimate and gives you a chance to meet couples of all types. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or brand new to the lifestyle, there's a little something at our Playcate convention for everyone. Swingers, Polyamorists, Tantra and BDSM enthusiasts are all welcome to satisfy your thirst for adventure. NASCA [TBA]

A Weekend of Fetish and Fun with a Taste of Ancient Rome

<A href=" http://www.ropelover.com/bodybound/event.htm "> BodyBound Educational Weekend </A>
February 17th-19th, 2006, Portland, OR
The West Coast has a rich community of rope bondage riggers, artists, enthusiasts and pigs- and yet we haven't had a chance to trade skills with one another or pass on our skills to those who have yet to develop their passions with rope bondage to their fullest. Thus, I am bringing together some of my favorite bondage artists and riggers from Seattle, Portland, Eugene, San Francisco and Los Angeles for just that- to share their skills, help you develop yours, and build community

I have had enough leadership conferences through work, so I guess I will pass on that one. Although, I have to believe Leather Leadership would certainly be a twist on the same-old same-old. I'd love to do BR, but December is definitely no good.

I have been checking the BMSL site for a while now, but the registration form, schedule, etc are still incomplete. I'll keep my eye on it.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll check them out.
