She was wonderful. So natural. I loved her voice and always thought she was classic in the way she presented herself.

Rest in peace, Bea. Thanks for sharing your gift with us

Awww :(
86 though, kind of not surprising.  Still, she was an awesome actress, and even better person.
G'night Bea.

I will miss her. Another tall chick, I loved the way she carried her height and was not afraid to wear lovely things that accentuated it.

A favorite:
Condoms Rose, condoms.

CarrieO -> RE: Bea Arthur dies (4/25/2009 5:55:27 PM)

I remember watching "Maude" with my sister when my parents where out for the evening.  The episode that stands out for me is this one... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4YjB6Szch4
I remember asking my sister what it was about and neither of us knew (yeah sheltered life).  I had to go to the woman next door, who ironicly was the spitting image of Bea Arthur, to explain it to me.
She was a wonderful actor, one heck of a Lady and will be missed.

MichiganHeadmast -> RE: Bea Arthur dies (4/25/2009 7:11:04 PM)

A great actress.  RIP.

Be at peace, lovely lady.

Sad...very funny lady.  I remember Maude well from my childhood.

She was one of those whose life make stories.
A Broadway baby drawn to the great white way
who went on to use her unique talents to become
one of the great Broadway Broads.

With a detour through Hollywood

My bet is that she sailed past St Peter with a look
and a wisecrack. It is time to dig out some Sondheim.

Loooved her in Golden Girls, and didn't realize she was that old.
May she rest in Peace.    M

Shame she had to go...thanks for letting us know...

I used to enjoy watching her in the golden girls on german television as a child and when I came to UK they sometimes still did show some parts of this serie...

CatdeMedici -> RE: Bea Arthur dies (4/26/2009 4:06:57 AM)

The first time I saw her, she played the best friend to Angela Landsbury's Mame on Broadway--we went the Thanksgiving after My Dad passed unexpectedly--those two Ladies have no idea how they have comforted Me throughout My life.

i watched Maude as a kid...when i saw the death announcement i was truly saddened( i think lushy may think she was a family member from the way i gasped)

BlackPhx -> RE: Bea Arthur dies (4/26/2009 7:13:53 AM)

She was a class act all the way....and did a LOT to portray strong women on TV during a period when most shows were still doing the Man knows best thing. A true pioneer. May she rest in peace.

What else would be more appropriate when saying good-bye to this wonderful lady?

"Thank you for being a friend."
