Thank you for sharing that! This would be a v good time for everyone to make sure their anti-virus is up to date!!

You have to actually open the email, and probably the attachment that comes with it for the virus to actually "attack". If anyone is stupid enough in this day and age to open spam email, then they deserve to be attacked.

A lot of times those emails have v misleading subjects.

Also, the last one I got appeared to come from a company I do some independent contracting with. The problem is a lot of these viruses copy your address book, and send themselves out to everyone on it. The two I got from this company had subjects like "New pics of Kathy on New Years Eve"

This is a big company. (A company that does mystery shopping) Lots of times throughout the year there are gatherings for the companies and the shoppers.

But even if any of those things weren't the case, I disagree with your statement 100%.
Sure hope your grandmother is as savvy as you are when she's on the net...
Or your young child...
Or your younger sibling...

Not everyone knows what to look for.

What's really needed in this instance is a CLUE shot. Anyone who uses a Windows email client and doesn't have at least one anti-virus package running (and updated daily) deserves to get hit by this worm.

If you're one of those who doesn't currently have anti-virus software on your system, you night want to consider getting it now.

It is hard not to agree here. If one surfs the net without anti-virus software and they catch something nasty... it is their own fault. Broadband users especially should have a firewall program installed as well. And for those of you that think you are safe by not opening attachments on emails... well, you are wrong. When you surf the net the ActiveX controls on web sites can download things onto your computer without you even knowing it. I learned this the hard way. I never opened attachments from anyone I didn't know and my system got infected from surfing. I wasn't using anti-virus software either so I got what I asked for which was trouble. Lucky for me, I deal with that stuff all the time so I was able to fix it with little or no trouble. You cannot be too careful. There are free programs out there that are OK... not the best, but OK. The ones you pay for, while a little pricey will give you more reliable coverage and will alert you when virus threat levels are high.

Scan your computer at least once a week. If you surf a lot... do it twice a week. Also get good spyware removal tools. Run them also and update them frequently. It is about your own privacy and safety so if you think it isn't worth having, don't get the protection... but don't complain that your identity got stolen or your computer is a useless hunk of electronics because of your own negligence.

This virus emails itself out from infected computers after accessing the host computers email address book, so if a friend of yours is or gets infected and their address book in comprimised. You may innadvertently open an email containing an infected sub file or attachment, I'm not sure if it's a hidden text or script or if it comes as an attachment.
Just beware that's all.

hmmmm, the only email addresses actually stored on my computer are those of my bosses at work....hmmmmmmm
BAD!, BAD! Bob.

hmmmmmm......

I sub-contract to over a hundred different companies, and it's all done over the internet, so, even if I 'only' had my bosses in my address book, that would still be a lot of addresses...

I just think it's in poor taste to say anyone 'deserves' a virus...

Reminds me of a lot of other people saying certain people deserve this, or certain others deserve that...

I hope I don't get all the things I deserve in life...but then again, I've lived in too many glass houses...
