Are you asking me whether he knew prior to this fiasco...know i don't think he has the time to involve himself in the mission flights of his backup transportation...your insistance that he had to know....makes me wonder about Packer fans the world over, perhaps too much cheese?

Hey!  I'm a packer backer from day one!  Leave me and my cheese out of this!

I can hear the conversation now. Air Force security to the pilots, Where are you flying to? Pilots: Were going to New York to take some photos. Does the President know ? We didn't tell him because he is to busy with the economy. Ok, we'll clear you for take off. Send me one of the pictures...

It wasn't an "event" it was a photo op for a publicity campaign. And if the"possibility of endangerment to the people" had been properly assesed....I'm thinking it wouldn't have been done in quite this fashion......Still do not see nearly the importance level that would demand The President of The United States of America be involved in the planning of such a minor to do....Of course in their obvious mishandling of this,it now is in all probability on the Presidents radar... but to "blame" or lay responsibility for this fiasco on the President smacks of nit picking to the 9th degree.

I would argue, it became an event, when 1000+ people began evacuating their job sites in a panic.

Photo op for publicity? We are in an economic downslide, putting it mildly; anybody in their right mind should be saying, “we” can’t afford that. What public interest would they be trying to stimulate?

Mike, I don’t blame Mr. Obama, any more then I blame any other individual.

Where are you getting this nonsense, Serv?  Do you think he gives a moment's thought to where they park his back-up plane?  Chances are, he hardly ever knows, or has any particular need to know where the second plane is.

This incident tells us a little bit more about what kind of people he delegates authority to.  As with an earlier incident, it's the kind of people who are long on grand vision, short on nuts and bolts practicalities, and blind to unintended consequences.

I'll bet they got some really cool pictures, though.

cpK my point was it didn't become an "event' until after the fact...till the low level functionaries planning it had bungled it completely...and a t that point ,yes I beleive President Obama was made aware of the shitstorm.
Economic downslide or not do you really beleive the coffers are so bare a great nation like this can't afford to fly a friggin airplane........?

If anyone on here knows anything about the Air Force and the Secret Service, they couldn't possibly believe that President Obama didn't know that that plane was going to New York. The President has personal pilots that fly that plane. No one else is allowed near it. He knew...

I am really having a hard time understanding the need to convince others that our President might just have more important matters to attend to then where the back-up plane is at any given time. While the idea to do this was asinine.....laying it at the feet of President Obama is equally as asinine.

I believe it is thinking like this, that would be our downfall, if I believed it were up to man.

I thought the reason it wasn't air force one, was simply because Mr. Obama wasn't on it.

I guess you are all right about this after all. Some low level staffer decided to take the 'back up' to air force one to take some pictures and never told anyone about it untill it was seen flying around Manhatten island,.OK have some more kool aid.

Not even a hiccup in the federal budget.....whats .06 cents out of your pocket. If you lost it would it matter....this isn't even .06 cents to the fed...this is .00000000000006 cents cpK
Lucy, unless he is actually flying somewhere I don't think President Obama knows where Air Force One or its assigned pilots are at any given time.....at least I hope he doesn't,there are far more important matters for him to attend to.
The very idea is like being stuck in a bad Twilight Zone episode....

Was this a response to me? If so, I am unsure of where you got that idea from.

Then I can only wonder, why the need for taxes? Where I live, every penny, or fraction thereof, counts.

I wouldn’t expect Mr. Obama to know where the plane was at all times, but if it were being taken for a ‘tool’ through NYC, I think he should know.

No, It was for slvmike...I did want to add one more thing. As an at&t employee I was one of the few to have Secret Service clearance,. I put phone lines in the hotels where Reagan and Bush were staying in Milwaukee. You couldn't imagine what I went through to get that clearance. To think that the oval office didn't know about that airplane taking off is inconceivable to me. Again, he knew...

From the original article posted by MichHeadmaster
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/04/27/air-force-one-backup-rattles-new-york-nerve/

Updated, 5:52 p.m. | An Air Force One lookalike, the backup plane for the one regularly used by the president, flew low over parts of New York and New Jersey on Monday morning, accompanied by two F-16 fighters, so Air Force photographers could take pictures high above the New York harbor.

From http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/04/28/new-york-city-jet-flyover-photo-flop-triggers-recriminations/
Many New Yorkers, too, were asking why the administration would authorize an Air Force One backup plane to fly over the Manhattan skyline for photos.

Not a case of Mr Pres sending it out for a spin while he played golf or busy elsewhere as opined earlier
:)
