Andalusite -> Objectification as art (4/29/2009 8:46:59 AM)

A lot of people seem to associate objectification with humiliation, or with turning people into furniture a la House of Gord. I've done body art (painting, felt tip pens, wax etc.) a few times, and while they are doing it, I feel like a canvas. I enjoy looking at artistic knife play, tattoos, branding, decorative needleplay, cell popping, etc., but either haven't had the opportunity to try them, or they're beyond my pain tolerance, or not something I really want to have on my skin for the rest of my life. That feeling of being a work of art in progress, where the focus isn't on me or my reactions, but on the beauty that is coming into being, feels very objectifying, but in a positive way. I'm curious if other people have a similar feeling during the process. [:D]

Absolutely! As I've mentioned several times in posts here (and even in my profile), Objectification As Art is my whole raison d'etre, BDSM-speaking. Of course, everything I create has a pretty strong "performance art" aspect to it, so I tend to do a lot of training with my... ah... subjects? materials? canvas?... before the actual art-bit is ready. But yeah. I used to think that I just had a thing for kinky fashion and voyeurism-by-proxy, until I realized that what I really wanted was ultimately artistic in nature.

Of course, given that what I'm trying to "communicate" involves helplessness, social embarrassment over sexual roles, ideas about attractiveness, and unacknowledged desires, it functionally manifests as "designing a bunch of restrictive and revealing fetish outfits, dressing up attractive girls in them, and then having them prance about in coreographed displays".

Of course, it helps(?) that kink-wise, I have a serious Pygmalion thing going on - I establish sexual relationships most readily with my own creations, and by extension, with those who help me realize those creations.

I think it can be either, or some of both.  For me, the difficulty is finding someone who wants to use me for it.  (Not that I blame them -- I would rather see it done to hot females too -- but it's not my fault I'm not one....)

Objectification as an Art form. This can go hand in hand with control of appearence and clothing. Along with the public display or the sub/slave being shown off in public in some manner.

To artistically control the appearence and show off human art is hot...

I started doing a lot of photography a few years ago, heavy on the self-portraiture & with an emphasis on doing 'healing work' around my relationship with my body . . .. . . & I've really grown to love 'objectified' pics of pieces of my body as works of art . . . . .

There's a tit pic on my profile (go ahead & perve away [;)] ) that I like quite a bit, tho' it's not a 'standard pretty pic' . . . . . My working title for it is 'Sculptural Teat', & it is very much a product of this approach . . . . . . That pic & some others that I've liked are to be found here.

I don't have the 'standard model' young-fit-firm-slender body (that appears all around us in the media but is much scarcer in real life . . . .) & I don't see the point in trying to fit my body to those ideals, so I've been trying to 're-invent' my own aesthetic eye, if that makes sense . ... .

Great thread! Thanks for asking . .. .. .

Lovely photos Demon i had a good time pervin...I too like to use myself as a model for my own photos...i have also been model for others, also covered in paint and stuff, i love the fiddeling and the Art     (i think perfect bodies are quite overrated, tho i know some lovely people who are cursed with them)

Also i enjoy simlpy being a foot stool without any one taking pictures at times

I've done some Gothic/Industrial modelling before, and have several friends who were taking photography classes or trying to break into being professional take pictures of me for their portfolio. While I'm pretty young/fit/etc., I certainly don't have the look that Cosmo and such want! I really liked that the other models tended to have a variety of body types, from waifish to voluptuous.

I was thinking more about feeling a little objectified during the creation of the art, rather than for the audience, per se. Not that they didn't care about me as a person, but right that moment, they were focused more on what they were doing/creating. [:D] I sometimes feel that way a bit during BDSM scenes as well, but usually those are more focused on me/my reactions as a whole, rather than feeling quite as much like a canvas for the marks that result.

i've never looked at it that way other than with wax play, interesting view though

DemonKia -> RE: Objectification as art (4/30/2009 10:57:34 AM)

I know that feeling, of having people work on me, focusing on creating art with me as part of the art ..... It is nice, I just haven't had anyone outside of myself wanting to make art out of me in a long time . ... . .

GYPZYQUEEN -> RE: Objectification as art (5/2/2009 12:21:58 AM)

This may or may not be somewhat straying from the topic but I
use my sub's body & BDsM FOR art..
to make art on him..and it is fabulous..!!!

I use his back as a canvas..and use knife play to apply paint and pastels and then flog and crop the paint(as a brush would) together and again use the knives and tools to make marks in the paint..

I then press rice paper or watercolor paper on his back and lift it as a print..
I hope to show some here soon.

WHILE I am doing it I am aware that his back is the object(canvas) I am working with but I
am always aware of sub bob
as a human being surrendering his  broad  back )

(he is 6"3' and 280 )for the sake of Mistress's creating and her  heady excitement.

**CAUTION note...if you try this pls KNOW YOUR sub...you cannot see what their skin is DOING under the color of paint( welts..bruises etc)
