OrionTheWolf -> Derailment of Topic Due to racist comments (4/30/2009 8:42:04 AM)

Started this topic just for DomKen, since it continues to derail another topic.

I did not even bother to read in detail any of the banter of the posts that did not concern the OP. I never once said racist comments are okay with me. I did not read the website that was linked, and could care less.

I have been guilty in the past of being involved in derailments, and any who see that I am, please let me know so I can be consistant.

I did mention it as soon as I saw it start a derail. Instead I can just start using the report function and allow the already over worked Mods take care of it, or we can be adult about it. The choice is really yours.

Care to address the OP?

I note that when the racist bile was brought into this thread you didn't complain about the hijack. It was only when people decided to counter the hate speech that you started complaining however you haven't yet actually responded to the long winded racist filth being spouted in the thread. Why? Is it ok with you and only when people respond to hate speech with more speech that you have a problem?

So racist comments were ok with you until it derailed the thread from allowing you to make what ever gotcha claim you had in mind?

Can we let you know when you are being annoying, irritating, pedantic, sarcastic, arrogant, snipey too? [;)]

I am always that way, so no need to let me know that.

I'm curious to hear thoughts about where the difference lies in derailing a thread and allowing it to have it's normal progression, with people commenting in reply to other comments?

BOUNTYHUNTER -> RE: Derailment of Topic Due to racist comments (4/30/2009 9:51:05 AM)

I don't see a place for a racists in todays society,I for one believe that one should keep to ones race being a good old southern boy thats just me,I keep my thoughts to my self for I know just how much this kind of talk hurts others,we all will be one color one day any way so why fight it,just a natural progressing of nature..There seems to be a few that wants to derail threads because their way of thinking doesn't fit the topic and don't want to see others enjoy a good topic of conversation ,now orion this isn't intended for you its just my two cents..bounty

Termyn8or -> RE: Derailment of Topic Due to racist comments (4/30/2009 9:52:09 AM)

LadyP; kit, DK and I have unintentionally derailed two otherwise valid threads here. I have apologized and will stop if we just agree to stop.

I think I know the impetus for this thread, because one thread was started by Orion. It is just like when we are having a discussion in my livingroom and some people start talking about fishing. I detest EVERYTHING about fishing. Literally. I'll eat fish on occasion but it is not one of my favorites. Other than that I don't care.

At some point, one's gray matter kicks in and says "You are never going to get your point across". At that stage of the game there is no need to continue the argument. If you want to know what the argument was about mail me, I simply will not bring it up again in the forum. Actually I am not so sure I did that one time, but I am not splitting hairs here. There alot more important things to talk about.

This issue really only involves about four people, and we have no right to pollute every thread with that issue. And I think that is the point of the OP here. And I agree. Seriously, mail me if you want to know what it was, or look around the threads, you'll probably find it. It's just that it is going to take alot to get me to ever mention it again in the open forum.

DesFIP -> RE: Derailment of Topic Due to racist comments (4/30/2009 10:35:53 AM)

I think that starting a new thread just to be snarky at another person, who probably doesn't even know this thread has been started, is exceedingly low class.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Derailment of Topic Due to racist comments (4/30/2009 10:41:59 AM)

Actually DomKen was cmailed as soon as it was created. It also allows any of that particular discussion to continue without derailing the original. It is also an example of how easy it is to create a seperate topic, if discussion on unrelated matters wish to be discussed.

DomKen -> RE: Derailment of Topic Due to racist comments (4/30/2009 12:19:24 PM)

Actually it seemed pretty snarky to me as well as a pretty piss poor attempt at getting out from under the "unchallenged racist comments are ok with me as long as the thread stays on topic" comment he made that made me respond to him in the first place.

Further to Termy I will always challenge you every time you bring your bigoted opinions into a thread. You calling a truce means nothing tome unless it results in you never making another bigoted comment around here again.

I suspect it has to do with at what point I enjoin it.

Termyn8or -> RE: Derailment of Topic Due to racist comments (4/30/2009 4:13:05 PM)

No promises DK. I merely stated that I wasn't going to reference that thing again, unless acted upon by an unusually strong force, something that would bring something very specific to light. But I simply don't make promises. Also I have just as much right to be here as anyone else.

So, in the future you may have to deal with me quoting Louis Farrakan, MLK, Richard Nixon, Abe Foxman, Morris Dees, Henry Ford, well the list goes on. Each one a racist, but none of them idiots. If I reference William Pierce in a topic regarding sociology, or even Adolf Hitler on how to build a Wolksvagon, and it is relevant, and race is not at issue, I don't want to see this flurry every time.

I can take it, and apparently the mods can as well. But I choose to tone is down for the good of all, that we don't bog down every topic. I can take the flames, and hold my own but it is not fair to everyone else. I have agreed to back off, and I think I have the right to expect similar behavior from others. I have stated that I do not throw the baby out with the bathwater and I thought I made myself quite clear. I find however that some people can't take it, and I consider it their shortcoming, not mine. This is not likely to change.

I have tried to start a thread, with a poll actually about that dreaded subject, but it got pulled. I did not however get one of those gold fringed mails with words of warning or admonishment. The only thing I can assume is that the topic is simply too inflammatory for these fora. I wish they would have left it be, and we could debate it without being an annoyance to others, but oh well.

So I am going to go through life believing that certain others are partially ill-informed, and they wil think the reciprocate of me. I believe that is now termed as agreeing to disagree. I agree to it if others do as well.

There are more things in life to talk about, things of a more imminent nature, and those with a much greater impact on our lives. Hundred year old documents generally are just not that important, unless we are talking about the Constitution or something like that. And sometimes even then.
