JohnSteed1967 -> 80's Cartoons and TV (5/2/2009 5:57:13 PM)

I just bought a set of "Star Trek: The Animated Series" and I relized just how much that I really missed Saturday Morning Cartoons.

So I am getting a Copy of "Blackstar", "Dungons and Dragons" and "V". Am Seriously thinking about Jason of Star Command, and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

I can see this as a Saturday Morning thing for me, since I hate the Dreck that they feed kids on Saturday Morning TV as all it is is Japanese card game crap and stuff designed as pablum for younger kids.

What ever happened to good old fashioned violence and good versus evil struggles!

Sadly it got left in the dust when anime became so popular! Still miss UnderDog,  Legion of Super Heroes, ThunderCats.

I've said it before and will say it again, Jones, Blanc, Stalling, the Freeling brothers, Avery, Fleischmann... they are their own pantheon of gods not unlike the Greeks, Romans and Norse had.  Only funnier.

I miss saturday morning cartoons something fierce.  C'mon, The Smurfs!  Of course Thundercats, Ooooooh and Kidd Video and Jem!  (I should have known right then I was queer as a 3 legged duck).  O.G. Readmore too!  The list for me goes on forever.  I still love animation with a passion. But no one will ever ever be able to hold a candle, in my opinion, to Chuck Jones.  The man could do no wrong.

BKSir -> RE: 80's Cartoons and TV (5/2/2009 6:36:16 PM)

Oh man!  I remember David the Gnome!  All of em!  LOL.  D.M. was pretty cool, and Secret Squirrel (the old ones), and Top Cat, Tom and Jerry (well, not the ones made in Poland, those sucked)...  Sorry, I could sit here and talk 'toon all day. [:D]

ThatDaveGuy69 -> RE: 80's Cartoons and TV (5/2/2009 6:43:06 PM)

I was watching Saturday MorningCartoons in the 70's sothe shows I remember are: Hot Wheels, Speed Buggy, the various Scooby-Do shows, Land of the Lost, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Lidsville (Sid & Mary Croft must have been getting some bad acid), and tons of Hanna-Barbera crap.

But the best will always be Bugs Bunny/Road Runner/Warner Brothers characters.

Before those shows, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Beanie & Cecil, and Crusader Rabitt the tops!

George of the Jungle, along with Tom Slick and Super Chicken was the best, as was Jonny Quest.  Of course, that was the 60's.

GreedyTop -> RE: 80's Cartoons and TV (5/2/2009 7:15:43 PM)

Kimba teh white lion

oh wait that was late 70s

BKSir -> RE: 80's Cartoons and TV (5/2/2009 7:43:55 PM)

He's Kimba, the gay lion.  The gayest little guy in the land...
Seriously, I've seen effemenite before, but wow...  Kimba wins the prize.  Still a fun show.

And Johnny Quest, the originals.  That was western background animation at its finest.  Except for some of the higher end anime, out of japan, no one has been able to match that quality. :)

LOL!

Up and at 'em, Adam Annnnt!
Some of these were a bit before my time, but god knows I've seen the lot of em.  God bless you Boomerang.
I remember clearly, a babysitter when I was young, sitting in her kitchen.  I could describe the whole place in great detail, and watching rocky and bullwinkle and friends.  That's still one of my favorite cartoons of all time.  June Foray was a genius when it came to her voices.  The ol' lady is still at it too.  Good on her!

EDIT:  To include this.

Wow! I am surprised no one has mentioned the original Transformers yet! Or GIJOE! Perhaps the coolest 80's cartoons of all time. Granted, GIJOE has been around a lot longer than that in comic book form but still though the cartoon version rocked.
