I could not wait for good weather so that I could get outside and do my design work in a new yard! I was soooooo looking forward to it! Spring came... what a relief from winter, yes, yes, yes! Past a few storms and time to get out there! Woohoo... great price on brink, here comes my planters, wider sidewalk and maybe a bit of a patio! Digging, leveling, loading and unloading brick and sand, planning it all out by the inch and setting it all out to make beautiful... I am left wishing for pain medication, more money, a cook and a slave... and with all else I have to do while the weather is good, I am wondering how fast winter can come and save my ass! What do you have planned for good weather days that you know is going to kick your ass? *Okay where are those nice slushy drinks that mask pain and make it all more fun?

I scrubbed and re coated the front porch with a wood preservative Friday and Saturday. The porch is shaded and had algae on it. I scrubbed the algae off with a Brillo pad, it brightened the wood right up. I uprooted a old Azalea plant and moved it to a better location. Today I am just watching the rain outside, my work is done for now.

I am going to uncover the porch furniture and deal with loosening the dirt in the planters before dad gets back from Florida. Will the weather cooperate? Stay tuned! Oh, and I guess I have to see about powerwashing the driveway... the tree planting guys left some mega grease tracks from the backhoe. [&o]

Starting a greenhouse for my baby and planting 2 huge gardens, getting ready for the haying season and watching after several mares do to foal soon, my neighbor is working out of state so we are 'baby; sitting smile..bounty

I'm going to design and build a gravity-fed watering system for the container garden on my patio, so the neighbors don't have to come and water the flowers twice a day every time I go out of town! Each summer, I have anywhere from 15 to 20 flowerpots, of several different sizes and with different soil types depending on what I have planted in each of them. In addition, different flowers have different watering requirements, so I'll need to have at least 3 or 4 customized watering regimens to accomodate the specific needs of each flowerpot. I think the best way to do it will be to use different diameters of hosing, and possibly put some sort of valve in each hose so i can fine-tune it. Not quite sure yet how it's all going to come together, so I have a lot of experimenting to do. This may also be the year that I finally get around to creating a motion-activated anti-deer and woodchuck defense system. Claymore mines are unfortunately illegal in Minnesota (fucking nanny-state!), so I'm thinking I can get a motion-detector light system, and modify it to turn on an electrically-controlled sprinkler system - which I will also modify to shoot jets of water directly at the morning glory pots, which seem to be the only ones the furry bastards go after. The only problems are, I don't want to scare the turkeys or the raccoons away, because I get a kick out of watching their antics (especially the baby coons), and I don't want it to function as an anti-Panda system, because the patio door is the one I use to enter and exit my house. This one will take a little bit of thinking, I think.

I'm hoping to move by next year so I have tons and tons of projects to work on this year. Landscaping painting interior and exterior repairs to the siding refinishing the bathroom refinishing floors refinishing the basement small repairs and replacements throughout the house Waaay too much to do and not enough money though unfortunately!

Gonna pull some weeds in the lil flower thingy in the front yard. Probably plant some stuff. I havent really planned it all yet. I definitely will be starting to pack and store and clean things for the (hopefully) big move this summer.

I was fortunate to have my LL (landlord) build me a raised 8'x3' bed so I now have veggies along with all my herbs. I planted last week, which worked out perfect because we're due for rain this next week. I have a cafe metal table and 2 chairs I need to take a wire brush to and re-paint. Need a good few dry days for that. I'd also like to paint the interior walls of my cottage, LL permitting. I've decided I don't mind gardening in the rain, I just need more days off (or shorter work days) to do it. edited to add....I need to do a big "clean out" and get rid of the things I don't use/have no room for. A 400 sq ft. cottage doesn't allow for much clutter and when you get one too many of something it shows!

This house needs SOOOO much work. I'm going to be doing everything from chipping up brush, to building a compost pile, to digging volunteer trees out of the neglected flower garden, then edging said garden with brick. And I'm going to have to figure out a way to rig lights so I can do some of this after dark. I can't handle the heat and sun.

with me being in the hospital two summers in a row, things just didn't get done. i'm hoping to redo some of the plants in the yard, transplanting things this fall that can be done then and planning for next spring that need done then. this is going to be a "sit and watch what needs replanted" year; other than my tiny flower gardens on either side of the porch that i can reach from my chair. probably plant some seeds this week if i can get some help, if not, the weekend then. some days i swear i need a slave with a green thumb! the house was painted two years ago, so that's good still, need to work on the porches, i think lattice would look nice in a couple areas. the porch floors need staining this year. i have interior work i want done, windows i'm still in the process of replacing one by one and all that stuff. of course, same complaint as everyone, not enough money! PM

Yesterday The Man was all gung ho on renting a rototiller and planting. I looked at him as though he was nuts and had to tell him last frost date here is May 15th. He was crushed.

Sadly, the hot, desert-like heat and weather have set in for the next seven months, so not much is going to happen with outdoor projects. It's just too hot to be doing anything during the daylight hours. Projects around here are best done when those north of I-10 in the US are blanketed by snow.

I am gonna be mowing the lawn this year, did it in Georgia, bigger yard there, at least the yard here is small. That and basic upkeep on the garden, and the irrigation system in the garden and ground. I don't particularly care for gardening though, but the sprinkler maintenance is kinda fun.
