Most of my old faves have withstood the test of time and I've made a pretty successful attempt at replicating my original record collection in CD format. I've kept the Stooges in regular rotation ever since 1969, for example. One group that I guess I burned out on was Spooky Tooth. My buds and I used to go apeshit over the guitar on the Spooky Two album. I had the (used) CD in my hand the other day and almost bought it till all the songs flashed through my head and I realized I didn't really care to hear any of them again. Recently had a similar reaction to the first Alice Cooper album, Pretties for You, except I actually bought that one and kinda regretted it.

Last week I was totally stoked to get a CD of Arthur Brown's second album, which has long been a Golden Fleece type thing for me. I loved it when I was in my 20s. What was I thinking?? My perceptions back then must have been somehow altered, maybe like the chemical equivalent of Beer Goggles.

Some albums I haven't heard in decades, but I'm pretty sure they don't suck: The Cars and Candy-O by the Cars; Mott and The Hoople by (duh!) Mott the Hoople; and Get the Knack by the Knack. Actually, I seem to recall that the Knack record wasn't so hot except for My Sharona.

Others I'm not so sure about: Born to Laugh at Tornados by Was (not was) and the first two albums by Montrose.

good lord. There's just so much music out there. I've got cd's records and satellite radio. I just don't have time to do anything other than satellite radio at the moment. Sad really. But the way it is. Its an endless stream of brand new stuff.

Went through some of my shelves last night, and here are a few more I haven't listened to in over a decade (but that's going to change tonight)

Cat People - Giorgio Moroder (which is some really kick ass scene music, BTW)
Planetary Unfolding - Micahel Stearns (ditto)
Heaven and Hell/Friends of Mr. Cairo - Vangelis
Equinonxe/ Oxygene/Rondesvus - Jean Michel Jarre
Fresh Aire 1-7 (5 especially) - Maheim Steamroller
Ertha Kitt Revisted - Ertha Kitt  (purrrrrrr....)
The Machine Man/ Autobhan - Kraftwerk

and, just for kitchy fun...

Other Worlds, Other Sounds - Esquivel

It's hard to believe how long The Stooges have been around.  We saw one of their reunion shows a couple of summers ago, and Iggy's stage presence is still phenomenal.  We all knew it was a persona, a total act, because he's been saying so himself in interviews for years.  But we were still sucked in.  Really one of rock and roll's greatest showmen.

RRrrrrrrrrrrooowwwwwww.   Hahahaha!
I'm starting to like you more and more every time you post. ;)

Reminds me of a birthday gift I got a friend who is huge into music.  Found a set of 78's at a thrift store for like $5, the original recordings of Al Jolsen's "The Jazz Singer".

He's of a like mind with me, in that, sure, they're collectable, but what good would they do sitting there collecting dust?  Let's fire those babies up!

And, I loved Bobby Sherman...Easy come easy go.  Had his pic plastered all over my wall from the 16 magazine along with Paul McCartney, and Davy Jones from the Monkees.

samboct -> RE: Records you haven't listened to in forever. (5/4/2009 6:51:11 PM)

Reminds me of an interview that Tracy Roach- a DJ on WBCN out of Boston did with the Knack in the 80s.  She ended the interview saying "you know....- Good girls don't- but I do....."  I've always wondered what happened after that....

BCN and the Knack had something of a history- there's a story that Oedipus- the program director- got the job by locking himself into a studio and playing that damn album for 24 hours until everyone begged him to quit- and then they offered him the job.

And I like the Crazy World of Arthur Brown....and the Friends of Eddie Cairo although that was probably enough Vangelis for me.

I have to be in the right mood to listen to musik to be efficient by- Fun, fun fun on ze autobahn....

I tend to hang onto music for a long time- there's no telling when I'll get an urge to pull something like Oingo Boingo out.

Sam

You mean "The Sacred Knights of the Mystic Oingo Boingo?" (back before they shortened it to "Oingo Boingo" and then to just "Boingo"...) I remember seeing them play live at one of the Adult theatres in Denver... actually, they were playing outside one of them... like on the sidewalk! (I think it was the Bluebird on Colfax... you see it in a brief scene in the movie "Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead" with Faruzia Balk.) A friend of mine had a great way of describing Danny E. and the rest-  "showtunes for sociopaths."

(humming) "It's just another day..."

BKSir,

Wow! Great find on those 78's... the last time I found anything cool on 78 was about ten years ago. I was being paid to clear out a guy's basement (which had flooded several times...) There was a mouldy carcass of an old Wurlitzer juke box down there that played 78's... I salvaged the records out of it before the rest of the cabinet fell apart when I tried to move it... but they were all novelty records! Out of the stack, my favorite had to be one with a Hamms beer jingle on it. Most of the titles, I transferred to a high quality cassette, and sent to Dr. D. There was also a classic routine of "Whos on First?" From Abott and Costello.

Damn!  A cryin' shame about the jukebox.  I LOVE those things.  Very high on my list of "Stuff I want".  ;)

Man, what I wouldn't give to get my hands on the old vinyl of some Abbot and Costello.  I have a ton on cassette from the early/mid 90s when they started re-releasing a bunch of them.  That sounds like fun!  I should break out the old radio shows I have, like "The Shadow" :D
