I always say it's two sides of the same coin; you're all just people. Treat potential dommes as you would treat potential friends; with openness, tact and class.
(There was no offense intended to the absolutely incredible dommes and masters on these boards.) (nor to the not so incredible ones...[:D])
In my relationships, I don't see a submissive as less. I want him to be more, more and more... but really I see us equally as people, just very different and the differences allow for some really interesting and kinky power surges for both. By each being different and wanting (for lack of a better word at the moment) a different place or position in the relationship, we enhance one another's lives by using those differences.
