Yeah, if you're looking for lifestyle-related activities in Wisconsin, you'll usually need to do some driving. If you just tell us what part of the state you're in, we can give you some ideas on what's within driving distance. If you're in the southern or eastern portion of the state, you're closer to Chicago, which has a very active scene. If you're in the western or northern area, the Twin Cities (Minneapolis-St. Paul) is probably a better bet.

Too bad you're not here a couple of weeks earlier. In early June, one of the Twin Cities groups (Knights of Leather) is having their annual 3-day outdoor Tournament in northeastern Minnesota, 10 miles from the Wisconsin border. 3 days of unadulterated debauchery in a very isolated State Park group camp, with 4 buildings set aside for dungeons, sleeping accomodations for 130, and a formal Saturday night banquet in the lodge. Great fun. For some of us, it's the only scene event we even go to anymore.

I'm from Oshkosh, about an hour south of Green Bay. Not much in terms of lifestyle events, but there is the Experimental Aircraft Association Air Show there, one of the largest in the world. They have all types of experimental, historical, and military aircraft on display, as well as demonstrations and fly-overs of more classified aircraft such as the B2 stealth bomber (a creepy sight! The things is just so eire to see fly.) On "Warbird Weekend" they have demonstrations of current and historical aircraft, like the f/a-18, F-15, F-16, Harrier, A-10, P-51, P-38, b-29, b17, and b-25. They've had cargo planes like the C-130 and C-5 (Huge!). They give live demonstrations with the WWII aircraft with things like Strafing and bombing the runway (don't worry folks, it's safe). It's a little different every year though, so you'll have to google their site (I'd post a link, but I have to go to work.) to find out more. If your an aircraft nut like me, or even if you just find planes interesting it's a think you'd probably enjoy.

Otherwise there is a lot of fun to be had north of Green Bay and in the U.P. if you enjoy camping and the out doors. (Ask your master about the Yoopers. Great people.) Have fun and say hello to my fellow Cheese heads for me!

Green Bay, though.... shit. Kind of the worst of all worlds as far as lifestyle events are concerned. That's where my dad lived, so I know the area pretty well. I hate to tell you this, but you could hardly pick a part of Wisconsin that's farther from the scene. Green Bay's nothing but strip malls and warehouses, 2/3 of which are all painted in the same green and gold color scheme (Packer team colors), which really gets hard on the eyes after a while. You could make Minneapolis/St. Paul in 5 hours (if you drive like I do), and Chicago in about the same time, I guess, but the Green Bay area has nothing much to offer in that regard. What it does have is convenient access to some of the most beautiful wilderness in the Midwest, so if that appeals to you guys, you could definitely have some fun times. I won't hijack the thread by blathering about that, because it's not what you asked about, but if you'd care for some suggestions along those lines I'd be happy to expound. One thing I will say is, I strongly encourage you to set aside a couple of days to tour Michigan's Upper Peninsula - especially the Houghton-Hancock, Copper Harbor area. Stunningly beautiful shorelines, especially if either of you happens to be a geology buff. If there's anything at all I can do to help you plan, please don't hesitate to ask. Distances, points of interest, highway conditions, whatever. I'm happy to help.

I'm not familiar with that part of the US, but wanted to say that I hope you enjoy your visit. I spent three weeks in Brisbane a couple of years ago and loved the place and the people.

I am in Wisconsin, not far from Green Bay. If american football is of any interest I would recommend the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame. Aside from that, the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay. Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is always fun and interesting.

If you want to take some short road trips from GB, head south to the Madison area and visit the Cave of the Mounds. The House on the Rock, and Frank Lloyd Wright's home 'Taliesin'.

Highly recommended for the time you will be here, I suggest a day or two at Summerfest on Milwaukee's lakefront, which is the world's largest (and longest running) music festival.

If you want to relax for a day just getting wet try Noah's Ark in Wisconsin Dells ( <-- and lots more here)

All of the above is within 3 hours or less from Green Bay and there is still lots more this is just some of the things you can find to do while you are here.

btw....one last thing if you need a fellow countryman to give you some pointers try contacting Wayne Scullino. He's an aussie who quit his job, sold his house and moved his family to Green Bay for one year just so he could follow the Green Bay Packers for one season. He was a bit of a sensation when he was here.


ETA: Totally forgot to say that Panda is right. Not much in the way of lifestyle events in this part of Wisconsin. If you want to go to the western part of the state (Eau Claire area) you might be able to find some regular events to attend there. For the moment can't remember the name of one of the groups in that area. I will PM it to you if I can remember or find it.
