Alright, the big brain dudes at all the colleges and universities STILL cant agree on what started the big bang and the creation of the universe.

I submit we should take a poll and which ever choice has the most points is the correct one.

This is purely a non-scientific and not totally impartial

I'm all for the theory that this is all an elaborate mind-game being thought up by some whacked out being.

On that note, may I suggest that the whacked out being please take some more substance...

"Big bang?" What is this "big bang" you speak of? I thought it was just turtles all the way down...

No no some Holly in another dimension was cookinga pot of chili. It exploded creating not only us but bringing along her hapy firemen.

This is so weird.  I just started reading a book yesterday about this very topic, and it touched on the "big bang" in my reading tonight.  Then this thread.

Actually, it was probably me, walking into some solid, immovable object (I'm talented like that)

Personally, I think we're all just figments of Bill Hicks' imagination, from beyond the grave . . . . Er, maybe it's that I'm hoping . . . . . lol

Life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves. - Bill Hicks

Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed through a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, life is only a dream and we are the imaginations of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather. - Bill Hicks

The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question: "Is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey, don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we kill those people. - Bill Hicks

It's just a ride and we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money, a choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. - Bill Hicks

& this:

I'm gonna share with you a vision that I had, cause I love you. And you feel it. You know all that money we spend on nuclear weapons and defense each year, trillions of dollars, correct? Instead -- just play with this -- if we spent that money feeding and clothing the poor of the world -- and it would pay for it many times over, not one human being excluded -- we can explore space together, both inner and outer, forever in peace. Thank you very much. You've been great, I hope you enjoyed it. - Bill Hicks

I left in love, in laughter, and in truth, and wherever truth, love and laughter abide, I am there in spirit. - Bill Hicks

(Especially if there's nookie going on, Bill was a big fan o' nookie . . . .. [;)] )

Can you tell what kick I'm in the middle of?

shaddup, Sci....

jlf1961 -> RE: What caused the big bang? (5/7/2009 11:54:00 PM)

Personally, considering the way the human race thinks, if anyone figures out what caused the big bang, they will turn it into some sort of super weapon.....

JUMP TO FUTURE

US PRES: Look, do what we tell you to do or else!
Other Pres: What? Use nuclear weapons? We got those too you idiot!
US PRES: Nope, we will vaporize the frigging planet and kill everybody you dumbf*ck!

***really wonders if my opinion of the human race in general is showing again????

MainFragger -> RE: What caused the big bang? (5/8/2009 12:01:52 AM)

I think gravity caused the big bang. I think something warped at the center of the universe, caused gravity, particles started collecting at the center, spinning, giving off radiation, and then BANG!

Wbat caused Gravity? Well, if the universe is flat, and nothing contains it or holds it in place..its just floating in nothingness. So it started to sag a little in the center..and voila, gravity.

If we went to the center of the universe, I suspect we would find a metal we've never seen before. Something so dense, it would defy all of our attempts to examine it. I bet even the hottest lasers we could make couldn't even scratch the dirt on its surface, let alone the metal itself.

However, I think once we knew how big that center actually is, we'd be able to extrapolate the true size of the universe. I look at it this way, if you had a circle with 360 degree lines intersecting at the center, it forms an imaginary dot at the center. This metallic center would be that same dot, but real. There has to be a relationship between the size of the intersection and the size of the circle. So if you know the size of the intersection, you should be able to estimate the size of the circle. Therefore, if you know the sizd of the center of the universe, you should be able to figure out the size of the completed expansion of the universe... Which is the full size the universe will be after it stops expanding and before is starts to contract again.

FR

Okay, sorta off-topic (tho' more on-topic than my first posting, lol), but while we're all engaged in a massive astrophysics admiration moment, I thought some of you might enjoy this, which is more about how big the universe is & how far we can see:

Deep Field Images

Very cool video, makes me feel good every time I watch it. But then deep field images make me very very very happy, & a coffee-table book of Hubble images is what I use where others might use a 'bible'.
