Have you ever heard a song and it affected you so strongly that you could not get it out of your? I heard this one a couple years ago...just wanted to share it. I find it to be one of the most beautiful and haunting songs that I have heard.

Shine Your Light by Robbie Robertson

The cry of the city
Like a sirens song
wailing over the rooftops
the whole night long
Saw a shooting star
like a diamond in the sky
must be someone's soul
passing by
These are the streets
where we used to run
where your papa's from
these are the days
where you become what you've become
these are the streets where the stories told
the truth unfolds
darkness settles in

shine your light
down on me
lift me up
so I can see
shine your light
when you're gone
give me the strength
to carry on
to carry on

don't want to be a hero
just an everyday man
trying to do the job
the very best that you can
but now it's like living
on borrowed time
out on the rim
over the line
always tempting fate
like a game of chance
never want to stick around
to the very last dance
sometimes i stumble
and take a hard fall
lose your grip
off the wall

shine your light
down on me
lift me up
so I can see
shine your light
when you are gone
give me the strength
to carry on
to carry on

I hate songs tha make me cry :(

I remember that song very well, along with the soundtrack...which was in fact, very very good.

But, I also happen to be a huge Robertson fan .

I’m gonna take it to the limit of my love,
Before I turn and walk away
I’ve had enough of holding on
The promises of yesterday
Every day of my life, it seems,
Trouble’s knocking at my door,
It’s hard to try and satisfy
When you don’t know what you’re fighting for

Time and again I sing your song,
But, I’ve been runnin’ on empty far too long
I’ve had enough holdin’ on to the past,
Make no mistake, it could be your last

Don’t break my heart again, like you did before
Don’t break my heart again, I couldn’t take anymore

I never hide the feeling inside,
And though I’m standing my back to the wall,
I know that even in a summer love
A little bit of rain must fall
But, every road I take I know
Where it’s gonna lead me to,
Because I’ve travelled every highway
And they all keep coming back to you

Time and again I sing your song,
But, I’ve been runnin’ on empty far too long
I’ve had enough holdin’ on to the past,
Make no mistake, it could be your last

Don’t break my heart again, like you did before
Don’t break my heart again, I couldn’t take anymore
Don’t break my heart

Don’t break my heart again, like you did before
Don’t break my heart again, I couldn’t take anymore

I could post so many different songs that have moved me deeply. This is a tough one to narrow down to one post so I might put a few up. This is one that means so much to me. It says so much that is inside of me.

Goo Goo Dolls
Iris

And I'd give up forever to touch you
'Cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
'Cause sooner or later it's over
I just don't want to miss you tonight

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
And you bleed just to know you're alive

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am

I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am

PEOPLE WHO DIED (by Jim Carroll)

Jeff sniffin' glue he was 12 years old
Fell from the roof on East 29
Kathy was 11 when she pulled the plug
26 reds and a bottle of wine
Bobby had leukemia, 14 years old he looked like 65 when he died
He was a friend of mine

Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
Those are people who died, died
They were all my friends and they DIED!

Feline, I can hear it in my head, a 60's song perhaps. I think it's by a duo, perhaps Chad and Jeremy?

It really bugs me in public, hearing songs that bring tears. In fact, that old Roy Orbison / Don McLean song 'Crying' can do just that.

One powerful non-romantic song is by someone who is now a Muslim, Cat Stevens. It's called Father and Son, and disagreement between them. I can tell you that as a son, it's really powerful.

"Moon River"

music by Henry Mancini, lyrics by Johnny Mercer

Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.

That is now my favorite. The most important and meaningful song to me. I love how it makes me feel.

"La vie en rose"?

"Quand il me prend dans ses bras, il me parle tout bas. Je vois la vie en rose. Il me dit des mots d'amour, des mots de tous les jours, et ça m'fait quelque chose. Il est entré dans mon coeur, une part de bonheur dont je connais la cause. C'est lui pour moi, moi pour lui dans la vie. Il me l'a dit l'a juré pour la vie. Et dès que je l'aperçois, alors je sens en moi mon coeur qui bat."

This has alway's been one of sissy's favorites:

What'll you do when you get lonely
And nobody's waiting by your side?
You've been running and hiding much too long.
You know it's just your foolish pride.

lola, you've got me on my knees.
lola, I'm begging, darling please.
lola, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

I tried to give you consolation
When your old man had let you down.
Like a fool, I fell in love with you,
Turned my whole world upside down.

lola, you've got me on my knees.
lola, I'm begging, darling please.
lola, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

Let's make the best of the situation
Before I finally go insane.
Please don't say we'll never find a way
And tell me all my love's in vain.

lola, you've got me on my knees.
lola, I'm begging, darling please.
lola, darling won't you ease my worried mind.

Oh, my darlin', oh my darlin', oh darlin' Clementiiiiine...

No, that's not the song I can't get out of my head. The one which badgers me is:

In 1918 he took a bullet to the head
They all thought that he was dead
But he surprised them
In 1981 I withstood similar attack
I got hit but I came back
And it keeps happening.

I'm like Rasputin
I get back up again
I'm like Rasputin
I keep coming back, coming back
Coming back to life

In robes and Coptic crosses
Took his chances, cut his losses
He was evil, so they tried to put him down
I had miniskirts and lashes
Life reduced this girl to ashes
Think I'm done? I'm not done
Time for one more go around

I'm like Rasputin
I get back up again
I'm like Rasputin
I keep coming back, coming back
Coming back to life

He gave some folks hope
Others wanted him to choke
So they poisoned him and shoved him in a lake
I've had lovers and detractors
But my one governing factor
Is there's nothing they throw at me that I can't take

I'm like Rasputin
I get back up again
I'm like Rasputin
I keep coming back, coming back
Coming back to life

This world's a messed up place
Our favorite act the fall from grace
Resurrection, isn't it a myth?
When I think I've had enough
Born too late to be so tough
My need for love sees me, asks me
You coming with?

And so has this one:

sissy lola, you're breaking my heart
you're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, sissy lola, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home

sissy lola, you're breaking my heart
you're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, sissy lola, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Come on home

Making love in the afternoon with sissy lola
Up in my bedroom (making love)
I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed
Someone's taken my place <giggles>

sissy lola, you're breaking my heart
you're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, sissy lola, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Come on home

Jubilation, s/he loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I'm laffin’,
Jubilation, s/he loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I'm laffin’

This song hits me harder than any I've ever heard. Saw it performed live just last Friday, and cried like a baby.

"Arlington," by Trace Adkins

I never thought that this is where I'd settle down.
I thought I'd die an old man back in my home town.
They gave me this plot of land,
Me and some other men,
For a job well done.

There's a big white house sits on the hill just up the road
The man inside, he cried the day they brought me home.
They folded up a flag,
And told my mom and dad,
We're proud of your son.

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
And I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace.
I'm one of the chosen ones.
I made it to Arlington.

I remember daddy brought me here when I was eight,
We searched all day to find out where my granddad lay.
And when we found that cross,
He said, "Son, this is what it cost,
To keep us free."

Now here I am a thousand stones away from him.
He recognized me on the first day I came in.
And it gave me a chill,
When he clicked his heels,
And saluted me.

And I'm proud to be on this peaceful piece of property.
I'm on sacred ground and I'm in the best of company.
And I'm thankful for those thankful for the things I've done.
I can rest in peace.
I'm one of the chosen ones.
I made it to Arlington.

Yeah, dust to dust
Don't cry for us.
We made it to Arlington.

OMG, chris, that Amy Rigby song, in it's own way, always reminds sissy of that Chumbawamba one-hit wonder ... ya know the one ...

We'll be singin'
When we're winnin'
We'll be singin'

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're neva gonna
Keep me down

Pissin' the night away
Pissin' the night away

He drinks a whisky drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that
Remind him
Of the good times
He sings the songs that
Remind him
Of the betta times:

"Oh Danny Boy
Danny Boy
Danny Boy
Danny Boy..."

and so on ...

Oh yeah ... "the betta times" ... Sony Betamax was always much superior to crappy old VHS, wasn't it?

Hmm ... maybe it's the Boney M song that it reminds sissy of ????
