My posts didn't mention anything about whether it was PC or if it was funny, but now that you went there, just imagine the uproar had that been Bush smirking and laughing like Obama did while some "comedian" joked that they hoped, oh I don't know, let's say that Keith Overman guy's kidneys failed. Or that someone killed some other lefty...

Just imagine the uproar.

Two standards, always two standards...

It's so unfair, the right is so put upon, and its loudest cheerleaders have showed such upstanding decorum, grace and maturity in the past few years, I completely understand your current indignation.

Share with us some of your examples of Bush chuckling while someone wished death upon some Democrat, kitten. I haven't heard of them...

Why do you keep on talking about Bush? He's old news, you know [8D] .

Mr. Limbaugh never said he wanted the nation to fail. To the contrary, he said he hopes that Obama fails so that the nation remains safe. Which is his right to say it, but for the president use his office to attack Rush (there is a little bit of history now, between Barack Obama and Rush Limbaugh, this is all in a greater context), for the president to attack a private citizen for voicing his opinion is unheard of. It's petty beyond belief, and it says far more about Barack Obama the man than it does about Mr. Limbaugh.

He's not a private citizen, he's a public figure.

These are private citizens voicing their opinion:

In a speech on November 1, 2007, President Bush criticized Code Pink, among other antiwar groups, saying "When it comes to funding our troops, some in Washington should spend more time responding to the warnings of terrorists like Osama bin Laden and the requests of our commanders on the ground and less time responding to the demands of MoveOn.org bloggers and Code Pink protesters."

Two standards huh?  Did you find this as funny as Bush did?

I wonder if the mothers of our dead soldiers found it knee-slapping hilarious.

Bush jokes about search for WMD, but it's no laughing matter for ...

President George Bush sparked a political firestorm yesterday after making what many judged a tasteless and ill-judged joke about the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Mr Bush made the joke at a black-tie event for radio and television journalists in Washington on Wednesday night. He narrated a slide show, described as the White House election year album, making hay of the administration's reputation for secrecy and strained relations with European allies. But it was the joke about the war in Iraq that drew attacks.

A slide showed Mr Bush in the Oval office, leaning to look under a piece of furniture. "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere," he told the audience, drawing applause.

Another slide showed him peering into another part of the office, "Nope, no weapons over there," he said, laughing. "Maybe under here," he said, as a third slide was shown.

I find it amazing that those on the left, when confronted with a direct question about how they'd have responded...or how they did respond...if/when Bush would have done the same thing, their response is always to deflect rather than answer the question.

kittinSol -> RE: One Sided Humor...that`s actually funny. (5/11/2009 12:02:17 PM)

Since it wasn't Obama making the joke, I fail to see why you have your knickers in a twist. Oh hold on... it's because you actually enjoy it!

Yes, I found it hilarious... and no cigar for you. It's not the same in any way.

Put it this way - most kindergartners know better than to wish people dead, even jokingly. Today our president is the object of scorn in newspapers around the world for not having even a preschoolers level of maturity.

Are you suggesting they lack basic intellectual honesty?

Yeah... there's that.

Some foreign newspapers actually give a rat's ass about hurting Limbaugh's feelings? Which ones? Because I bet you that Limbaugh doesn't give a flying fuck about other people's sensitivities, especially not those that are abroad.

The comedian who referred to Limbaugh's kidneys was making a joke about his wishing that Obama would fail. Remember that? That oh, so funny, uncontroversial, MATURE "I hope Obama fails" piece of crap that embarrassed all but the most rabid members of the GOP.

If you can't laugh at yourselves, (and it's obvious that you cannot), you are well and truly doomed. But I suppose self-mockery is difficult to achieve when one is in the middle of the most abysmal failure.

I find it amazing that you do not thoroughly read posts in a thread before you reply.

The poster I responded to clearly began the comparison by saying "just imagine the uproar had that been Bush smirking and laughing like Obama did".

Sanity, if you truly found that funny then I'm losing the respect I had for your opinions.

Not the same in any way?

Yes, you're right.

No one at the recent event was joking about the poor decisions and bad judgment that led us into a war with over 4,000 of our own dead, thousands permanently disabled, and tens of thousands injured.

The cavalier attitude Bush exemplified with his "jokes" is the same attitude that got us there to begin with.

And you mean to seriously compare Bush's total lack of empathy for the families of the soldiers, while he joked about his own misguided reason for the invasion, with the jokes at this recent event?

I found it really interesting that many conservatives here talk about how Obama supporters feel he is the Messiah yet defend Bush even past the bitter end.

If you are talking about me: you are mistaken.

If you are talking about other people: if you do not see the difference between reading the mind of a person, and determining how he feels, compared to reading the words of people and seeing the hero worship in their words ... then you are also mistaken.

No, what I don't see is how some can take offense at Obama laughing at a joke about a blowhard commentator and comparing it to our former hero in office making jokes about blunders that killed and maimed our own soldiers.

And I never said it was you, but you jumped into this and I responded.

I guess that depends on your sense of humor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Xq8nD-4a3g is funny.

Saying you hope someone has kidney failure isn't....no matter how much you hate the guy.

Sanity -> RE: One Sided Humor...that`s actually funny. (5/11/2009 6:29:01 PM)

Bush looking under his desk, etc., saying "Are the WMDs under here?" was a joke. Soldiers died? Sure, but 25 million Iraqis were liberated, too.

What Bush did in that video you're so hung up over is levity... he was poking fun at the situation.

Calling a fellow countryman a terrorist because of a political disagreement, saying he had ought to be tortured, and then wishing him dead, isn't any kind of comedy. And if the situation had been reversed you'd be screaming racism, too, and you'd demand the perps be prosecuted for committing a hate crime.
