Irishknight -> Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/10/2009 11:50:44 AM)

I thought it might be good to start a thread for those of us fighting to lose weight.  We can talk about our progress and cheer each other on.  Kind of like a kinky weight watcher's.  If you have any recipes that you would like to share to help folks loose weight safely, post them.  I know that I could use all the help I can get.

MsLadySue -> RE: Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/10/2009 12:20:30 PM)

Can't help with recipes since mine is a specific program that wouldn't help anyone else unless they are getting the B6 & B12 shots to go with it. Since March 17th I've managed to drop 30 lbs without being hungry.

Count me in....the more encouragement the better. [:D]

My favorite meal is boneless, skinless chicken tenders.  I usually marinade them in Kraft Greek Vinaigrette Salad dressing, a bit of crushed red pepper and throw them on the George Foreman grill.  A couple of tenders with brown rice and a large portion of steamed veggies is very filling and low fat.  If you want/need a snack later, I usually have "old fashioned popcorn" (I pop it in canola oil on top of the stove).  The canola oil has enough flavor and I don't add butter.  Microwaveable low fat, low sodium popcorn is cool, however, I like to monitor the amount of sodium in my food.

Um, let's see...what else?  Oh!!   Talapia loins.  Lightly seasoned, a tiny bit of butter, wrap in aluminum foil and bake or broil.  Same sides as above or with a salad.  I don't care for low fat salad dressings; however, I put crushed red pepper on my salads to reduce the need for large amounts of salad dressing.  Weight Watcher's tip; have the dressing on the side, dip your fork in the dressing and then spear the veggies.

Last two thoughts for now, I promise.  Whole wheat or whole grain breads, pasta, rice.  Water, water, water!!

Whew...well, that's my input.  I'm not weighing myself these days and trying to go according to how my clothes are fitting; they're getting looser.  Yay!!

Good luck!!

After recovering from surgery I'm determined to get back on track.

So, it's back to walking, and making better choices, or that's the plan. We have scales somewhere, but I they're still packed away after the move. I'll be able to find them eventually, but it will make it harder to keep track of what my weight is doing.

So, I'm starting with -
Drinking two large bottles of water daily.
And building back up to at least five portions of fruit and veg a day.

Cool thread  [:D]
This is a topic that occupies so much time and energy, it's nice to see a place for it in the boards. I've lost 85 pounds and kept it off for 3 years. Hopefully more will follow. I was always very tiny but when my marriage fell apart eating was how I made myself feel better. I'm crap with diets so I exercise every day. I go to the gym each and every day and that's how I've managed to not only lose the weight but keep it off. Plus I feel so much better. The ums haul me out to show off my guns to their friends and I rode in a 36 mile bicycle race a few weeks ago with the bf- who would  have thought? Lol...
I have my before and after pictures up on the wall at my local gym and I love talking to any patrons who care to ask what I did and how I did it- hopefully it will inspire them to keep at it themselves! Hugs to everyone who is struggling with weight issues and I want to say please keep at it, the result is worth it. Reclaim your life and live it the way you want to, on your terms.

Hi all,

I am looking and seem to always be of late looking to get back in shape!! I am a low carber who many times gets lazy and drinks pop in place of water and tends to make a lot of excuses and really would love someone to create a cardio pill lol.

What's sad is i know what to do, i simply don't do it. grins a couple times i have been so desperate for discipline i couldn't seem to find i almost thought to advertise for a Dom who would be willing to be my ummmm [sm=ubanana.gif] and [sm=whip.gif]and [sm=weightlift.gif] as i usually do better when i report so to speak to someone who has the authority to discipline me lol. Go figure. I want to get seriously back on plan and begin working out an hour a day 5 days a week and boot that up to 2 hours a day until i reach my goals in a few months and then bring it down to something easier to handle.

I have TONS of low carb recipes and know where to find them online so feel free to contact me if you want any.

But i am slowly getting back on track and wish everyone well in reaching whatever goals they seek.

fast reply

rocking/partying with bands, believe it or not, is keeping me young and healthy.

as far as exercise goes, i get plenty of walking and running done. i'm on my feet "chasing" the stage for the perfect photo(s) and reviewing 5 to 6 hrs during 3 to 4 nights a week.

lately i've skipped the usual one glass of soda exchanging it for bottled water. also i have a salad and lite dinner before leaving for the show.

well - i have dropped a pant size and more inches around the waist.

butterflyHD -> RE: Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/11/2009 7:06:16 AM)

I gained after I hurt my back last year, I didn't move other than to go to the restroom for probably a couple of months.  I was soooo depressed from hurting that I didn't change the way I ate and before I knew it I had gained.  From Dec to this April I had to have surgery and then ended up with heart problems which I have finally gotten most of my tests back on and it doesn't look like anything really serious at this point.  I am now ready to start exercising (since I know it's safe), but I am only supposed to go walking till I meet with the Dr again.  After that appt. I can go  in full swing and do all I want. (I hope)

I am just trying to eat right, I love the Special K blueberry and choc. cereal with soymilk.  I also enjoy the slim fast ultima when I am in a hurry and want to just brab and go.  The Fiber One products are yummy, the key lime yogurt and choc. granola bars.  You get a ton of fiber and a ton of taste.  All of which keeps you satisfied for hours.  I also enjoy taking salmon with lemon and fresh veggies, wrapping and throwing it in the oven or on the grill.

There are soooo many options out there right now that are delicious and filling, there isn't much excuse to grab McD's instead.  I do think a treat now and then is important, I enjoy using the Olive Garden for that once a month..I get whatever I want and I enjoy every bite.

This is a great thread, would be nice if it kept going.

April 1, I set a goal to lose 30 lbs by June 1--I'm down 14 to date---fruits, fruits, fruits, water water water, vegs vegs vegs and a new relationship with my exercise ball.

LaTigresse -> RE: Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/11/2009 7:40:53 AM)

I've managed to get rid of about 35#. Not exactly as much as I would have liked since I started in September but I am in it for the long haul.Another 40 or 50 and I will be a happy camper.

I've just changed how I eat altogether most of the time. Especially during the week. I am doing very little cooking except for weekends. Just do not have the time. So, for me it's usually fruit or a Kashi bar for breakfast, which ever one I didn't have for a midmorning snack. For lunch another piece of fruit and some Wheat thins (only about 15-20), or a microwave cup of Select Harvest soup. Mid afternoon more fruit or a Kashi bar. By then I am usually around 600 - 800 calories for the day. Dinner at night is often the hardest because of generic dude. Although I've gotten him eating much lighter dinners. Often times some yogurt and fruit or something grilled.

Saturday I made a meal type pasta salad that isn't terribly low in calories but as a meal is pretty decent if you limit quantity. Used the coloured rotini and chopped up some hard salami, some black olives, feta cheese, roma tomatoes, green peppers and tossed it together with some zesty italian dressing. Nice after working outside all evening with horses and gardening.

I have never drank soda and actually love water so that helps. Not big on salty snacks and usually keep them out of the house. For me the key is keeping myself very active physically. This desk job was packing the lard onto my ass like crazy. Now I try to walk for 1/2 hour minimum at least 4 times a week. Not a relaxing saunter but really powering it up and down the hills here.I also got an eliptical at home that I hop on a lot. It's great for the arms too.

One secret for exercise I recently found out. (works for anything you would rather procrastinate on actually...) I hate exercise for the sake of exercise. HATE IT!! So I trick myself. When I don't feel like doing it, instead of starting off with the mindset of going for a 45 minute power walk, when I am feeling lazy and don't want to, I just think........."Oooohhhh, I will just go a few blocks at least. Better than nothing." or whatever the dreaded task is. Almost always, once I get going, I do the full workout. It's the getting started that is the mofo.

Phoenixpower -> RE: Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/11/2009 1:00:18 PM)

last year during autumn i managed to loose 24lbs in 4-5 months with just cutting down the damn chocolate and coke to once a week....unfortunately by now it is back after I had a very upsetting meeting indeed and after uni stress on top of that. But I am about to get to that rule again as in my case it simply is the damn sweet tooth....despite that I also once lost 18 kg in one year with just not eating after 6pm. So I still eat all my treats and coke etc. but I had dinner around 6pm-ish and that contributed to a slow but steady weightloss...unfortunately again a few weeks after that I started a traineeship and with sitting a lot at school...which was right next to a bakery and wasting a lot of time on trainstations....that weight came back again fast...do they give somewhere injections that you dislike chocolate and coke??? that would help me big time [&o]

popeye1250 -> RE: Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/11/2009 1:18:39 PM)

I seem to be "stuck" at 229 lbs and I'd like to get down to 209 as my trainer at the gym said that's my "ideal" weight.
The only "fat" part of me is my gut and he told me that that's all diet.

Irishknight -> RE: Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/11/2009 3:04:08 PM)

I have been told that the hours I work contribute to my extra weight being so hard to get rid of.  Not sure how true that is but the last time I was able to get off graveyard shift and sleep at nights, I lost 20 lbs in no time without even trying.

littlewonder -> RE: Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/11/2009 3:58:58 PM)

Two years ago I lost over 40 lbs in a few months just from counting calories and fat and walking.

Unfortunately I gained 15 of it back in just the past couple of months due to a lot of stress and now I'm finding it extremely difficult to get rid of it again.

I hate the way it's making me feel and I'm down on myself for gaining it back. I'm just finding it very hard to motivate myself to be strict with the calorie count again.

I really need to get back on track somehow, someway.

I feel ya.  I'd lost almost 50 pounds however, surgery, another injury and then anti-depressants to deal with a pretty traumatic issue and I gained most of the weight back.  My eating habits also went to hell in a handbasket.  I have to lose this weight because I can't afford to buy more clothes (I gave away my larger size clothes).

Have you started back walking and watching your food intake?  Drinking water?  No, I'm not part of the diet police, just throwing questions out there.  [:D]

I'm trying to exercise for 30-45 minutes at least 4-5 days a week, longer when I can.  I joined www.myfitnesspal.com  and so far it's easy to keep track of food intake as well as exercise.
We can do this as there's nothing better than being healthy and increasing your life expectancy!! [sm=cheerleader.gif]

Like you, I threw out all my larger sizes and can't afford to keep buying new clothes. I refuse to buy bigger sizes. I just can't bring myself to do that when I know I can lose the weight.

I've been walking and watching my food intake but not as strict as before which is my own damn fault. Whenever I start to lose weight another stressful situation falls on my lap causing me to relapse unfortunately.

I just keep hoping and praying that the stress that is causing this will soon be fixed, disappear or something so that I can finally get back to my normal life again and I can get back into shape the way I need to.

NuevaVida -> RE: Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/11/2009 5:57:54 PM)

I'm on weight watchers and just dropped 25 pounds.  I love this program because it makes so much sense to me.  So far, every time I weigh in (except for one week in particular) I am less than the week before.  It's awesome.

I can't drink milk - at all.  I drink milk, I gain 2 pounds, simple as that.  So for my body, milk is out.

There are some good websites that are helpful, too:  Hungry Girl (get on their mailing list and get all sorts of great recipes and dieting tidbits) and Dottie's A-Z.  Scroll down to the bottom and see a list of popular restaurants.  Click on a restaurant link and see their menus and the points value of food items.  I check this out before going out to eat, and decide what to eat BEFORE going, so I don't have to open the menu and be tempted.

I've also started power walking - 2 miles a night a few times a week.  Tonight it's hot out so I'm meeting up with a friend at the gym.  I probably wouldn't go without her encouragement.

I found an old bra of mine - so cute.  Black, lacy, and a 34C.  I taped it to my refrigerator!! (I live alone so I can do stuff like that). Maybe some day I'll slip it back on and it'll fit [:D]

Portion control is a huge part of weight loss for me.  Small meals and small snacks throughout the day.  And LOTS of will power.  Working in an office means lots of potlucks (at least where I work).  I bring something I know I can eat, and snack on veggies and other healthy stuff.  I look at all the food and think, "Yep, I know exactly what that tastes like - I don't need to try it again today" and I pass it up.

On that note, it's time to meet my friend.

Best wishes to everyone here, in your loss!  Think positively!  WHEN you lose weight you'll feel great!  Seriously, I'm a believer in changing your vocabulary - no more "IF" I lose...no more "I wish I could lose..." no more self deprecating remarks.  Visualize yourself looking exactly how you want to look, and then plan on getting there.  Keep that vision in your mind and you can do it!

I don't know if this will help but thepoorgirleatswell.com or poorgirleatswell (can't remember which one it is) seems to have good stuff on there that might be helpful..

LafayetteLady -> RE: Weight Loss: Tell us how you're doing (5/11/2009 9:15:25 PM)

What a great thread!  My problem is a serious back injury from a fall in December.  I would love to start walking, but it is on the "forbidden activity" list.  Actually, almost everything is on that list.  I can't sit, stand or walk for any extended period of time.  We had a really nice day about 2 months back and I went for a walk.  Then I was in horrible pain for the next 2 weeks.  Needles to say, that makes it very hard to exercise.

I DO however have a great salad recipe that a woman I worked with years ago in a restaurant used to make.  Put all the normal salad stuff in (lettuce, veggies, etc.) but the dressing is what does it.  A little olive oil, salt, pepper, grated cheese and the juice of one lemon.  She was on weight watchers which is where she got the "recipe".  She made this salad every night and it was so delicious.  You could pretty much eat as much of it as you wanted and still make the "points".
