OK here is the issue,  i have an older computer that i have gotten out of storage and cannot access collarme.com.  i am using windows xp service pack 3.  i have tried uninstalling sp 3 i have changed all the settings in content advisor to unrestricted.  i have tried netscape, mozilla and ie.  i used to have ie 8 and have even rolled my browser back to ie7 and still no way to log on to the website - it just bounces me back to the home page or the age verification page.  i have no clue where to go from here and what is really strange is obviously i can sign into collarchat!! any suggestions?  i am in Pinellas Park Fl if you could even recommend a good computer person.  you can't look for techinical support for the site unless you can log in.  HELPPPPP???? please

Sounds sort of like there might be spyware or such on your computer. I know people always say that, but try going to www.malwarebytes.org and running that scan. Unlike most anti-virus software, that can actually REMOVE malware.

If that isn't it, Linux is free and Ubuntu will work decently with minimal requirements. Wiping windows on the otherhand is quite difficult and requires reformatting partitions often.

Oh, also- Opera is a third browser, but I'm guessing spyware/malware.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that you have to download malwarebytes as it is a program, but it's 100% free and reliable.

At the moment I concur with DL17, in addition to downloading Malwarebytes, also download and install Spybot S&D. Both of these are very effective programs to remove viruses, spyware and other malware. Right now it's quite possible you have a hijacker at work on your pc, at least that's what it sounds like.

On a different thought, are using dial-up or broadband? You might also check to see if you have any sites listed in the black/white list area if you have't already done that.

Have you tried to clear your cache, and cookies? It may simply be a stale cache.

And give Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ ) a go.  It works fine for me with a similar setup to your "old" system.

Does it get out to the Internet at all?

A couple more thoughts come to mind. Even though it may sound silly. Check your video resolution. You should have it set at least 1024x768. How much ram do you have in the system? Check the virtual memory setting too (set it to automatic)

It doesn't sound like a malware problem. The most obvious answer is that your browser's not accepting cookies.

I'd also recommend dumping IE as soon as possible in favour of Firefox or Opera. They're much more secure and will most likely run faster on your machine.

It could be a malware problem. But only if it is affecting more than one site, However I do think its a cookie problem the simple fact you are bounced back to the age verification page speaks volumes. As the cookie is basically how the site remembers you. And every time you log in the site forgets you.... You should check your cookie settings. If all seems fine then I would put it down to malware or perhaps even a virus. There is a whole bunch of malware and virus's out there simply dedicated to deleting cookies specifically. Some even steal them! Anyway to get to the point! Check your settings and make sure your privacy settings are not set higher than medium (the default for i.e) Plus if you have zonealarm as your antivirus then you need to check it also. As it has a firewall with its own cookie blocking function. And although i dont think it is malware it never hurts to scan your computer with a program such as malwarebyte or spybot S&D. Goodluck and I hope you fix the problem.

Edit: Also try doing what subrob1967 said and clearing the cache/cookies/offline web data.

I'll admit this one has me stumped. But I'm sure it's not the browser or your cookies settings. Otherwise you wouldn't run into it with every browser you try. Besides, the message boards require accepting a cookie too, and they work for you. You could try taking down your firewall and antivirus, individually, just to see if either makes a difference. But mostly I'm posting to ask you to let us know what it was, when you get it figured out.

This may just be totally irrelevant, or tertiary information, or might lend a clue to some of the more knowledgable here. I certainly don't understand it.

My old PC finally went down for the count, but sometimes I could get it to boot up. This entailed taking out the battery which reset the date to I think Jan 01, 2000 or something like that. I have run PCs before with the date not set and never experienced this, but the CM pages would not refresh unless I did it manually, and then I would hit a post and hit back, and again I am looking at stuff that is months old. I had to hit refresh on almost every page. This phenomenon no longer occurred once the time and date were set correctly. In light of that, could it be an issue with the cache this time ? Normally I do not recommend clearing it, especially since you can't. The data are easily recoverable.

Like I said that might not be pertinent, but I have never seen anything like it happen before or since. I am also not on any other sites that use this specific software, so there is basically no data on whether this is site specific.

Another piece of information that might be helpful is to know if the OP actually went though the age verification process. We are talking about a different PC, and therefore a different end IP. It may be this site or another, but I think it is this one that states in the TOS that your IP may be blocked for [severe] violations of TOS. To do this they must be able to detect it of course, and the software itself may be what caused this, that is if the age verification was not completed successfully on that specific PC. However this did not happen on my new PC, which is a total reinstall. I am sure the IP is different, but not necessarily for the modem, the router or my ISP. (or could it have a dead battery and the date just rolled back to a point where the OP wasn't 18 yet ? Stranger things have happened)

I am by no means an expert, I am throwing ideas out there. If I am dead wrong just say so. But from what I do know, I think these would be something to look into. Just trying to be of some help.

ok im back and still no luck.  my pc time is set currently, i have my cookies set at low.  i have my content advisor on IE currently turned off.  i tried to install that malbytes software but since i dont have office on my pc it wont open for some reason  so i went out and bought webroot antiviruis and antispy/  i have used ca antivirius and webroot to sweep my pc and they have removed several trojans from my pc.  i just don't get it.....  i have cleaned out all my cookies but what do you mean by cleaning my cache?  this crap used to be so much easier to clean when you cuuld just go in and delete everything by hand and not have a button that says delete this delete that.  Now Termyn8tor You said something about Your op went through and age verification thing?  Do you know how you accessed that?  i have gone to my user acct setting and it doesnt say anything about verifing age but i have also thought about maybe something in my pc is generic and cm cant verify that im over 18 heck i just turned 40...... but this has me so frustrated........

okay i looked again at the download for the malbytes and it says its and .efw file -  mbam-setup.1.2D0D17.efw what is that and how would i open it if i needed to?  i have firefox and it gives me a default opener program but that didn't do anything.  geez all this to find a Master well hopefully its worth it or something works... i just want to cry sometimes :(

An efw file probably isn't it, I would guess it's more than likely an update. Years ago I could take a file into a text editor and usually figure out what it is, but no more. I haven't kept up. I am pretty much at the end of any knowledge I might have on this.

If you have the time and patience, get the email going and setup a new CM account, it does not hurt and you really don't need to use it, but it will tell you if the problem persists.

There also used to be some settings for IE, "look for new versions of pages" every day, every time I visit and never. I don't know where to find that setting anymore, but if you can find it, it might be worth a look. Logically though this might not work for the same reason the problem exists, it would just be nice to know.

In fact I should be able to say almost assuredly that it is something to do with that PC. What I am on now is a totally new PC and had no cookies or anything, and once I logged in I was done, it gave me no guff at all. I mean totally new. Last time I installed XP, I actually copied my cookies as well as my favorite places and it worked fine, I didn't even have to login the first time. However you did no such thing, if I read this right you pretty much pulled the old PC out of the closet or something and now it is doing this.

Well, at least we don't have to feel stupid, this one has everybody stumped. The only other idea I can come up with is to try this URL and compare it to the URL you get normally when it doesn't work.

Note the bhcp=1 at the end. I believe that part of the URL tells the software that a valid cookie is present. Age verification usually gives you a cookie. Since it is a different PC, just send this post to yourself in an email and it should be clickable on that PC. If it works, I would say the software was just having a bad day. Once it got set a certain way, well then it stayed. If that proves to be the case, just make that url the one in your favorite places, and it will probably ask if you want to replace the original, and if it works, of course click yes.

My knowledge is not that extensive, and I am out of ideas at the moment. See if this works and maybe we can go from there. But right now I am also stumped.

Hello...I was having a lot of problems with my older Windows XP computer too. I had bought it in 2005 and I was out of RAM memory. I bought three more GB of RAM memory and it was easy to install myself and I am not the type who wants to open up my computer at all. That fixed all my problems and my computer is screaming fast now..it doesn't cost that much either.....about $50. I am not sure how much RAM memory you have but I had less than 1 GB before I bought the new memory.

Also
Scan the computer in safemode.
Clear all cookies/offline files/history/passwords etc. from the browser
and..in task manager under processes...you could list the processes that are running here..or I'd recommend you to google every single file that's listed in the processes. Trojans can often be found under processes. Also note if any process is clogging up the CPU or Physical memory.

otherwise..meh..reformat if you really really really wanna go to cm.com and can't figure out a solution it doesn't take that long if you don't have to backup most of your harddrive..
