Is anyone having problems with Hotmail, and for that matter MSN messenger ?

Ever since I had an announcement from MS that they were updating their search function, revamping hotmail, I have had nothing but problems with the service.

For a start, I cannot access hotmail on firefox, and on opera I can access it sometimes, but more often the case is I get the page that asks me to join hotmail, signing in, does not get me into my account.

MSN, it drops out, it appears as if I am talking to someone, I send a message and then silence, no reply. Others whom I talk with, I see them and keep seeing the message flash up that the receiver has signed out, followed by the receiver has signed in ad finitum. Sometimes the receiver sends a message, where did I go, my answer is nowhere, I am here and have been all through.

Any ideas anyone, for I wish to have a reason for this to avoid giving online friends the wrong message.

I haven't had a message saying they were updating - as yet?  So no, I haven't had any issues, apart from the obvious.

There appear to be some major issues currently with MSN and Messenger. However, for whatever reason, they are sporadic and intermittent, not affecting all users. I don't know if that is because of the differences in operating systems, versions being used of IE, MSN, Messenger or what. Lumus and I just spent several hours yesterday going through my mother-in-law's  computer due to problems she's been having as well. When it came down to it, it could only be a MSN error. We found numerous postings about current problems with it on various forums.

For ourselves, we run Firefox for a browser and Trillian for IM's since it combines Yahell, MSN, AIM and ICQ into one program. This way we only have one messenger service running instead of 3.

And my MIL got the update message this morning as well.... So there does appear to  be something going on.

Did you have to download a 'new version' or did it tell you of the changes and do it automatically?

We ended up downloading the new IE8 for her and the most recent MSN Messenger but still had problems.  (I love the lady dearly but she'll be the first one to say that she doesn't know boo-shit about computers and she gets to clicking here, clicking there and doesn't have a clue what she is doing so half the time we're correcting errors she's caused herself. That's why she calls us first now, we're her private tech support!) Then this morning, she turned her system on and after a bit, got the message saying that there were critical updates for Messenger and that Messenger needed to be restarted. I haven't head back from her after walking her through what was going on so I'm guessing that everything went smooth. Otherwise I would have gotten a call by now. [:)]

I am just thinking here, 'oh no, not yet another microshit problem'. They have taken things that work and changed them to things that are fraught with teething problems. I wonder when everyone gets fed up with MSN, microshit will turn around and say it is the users fault, like it did with vistaster.

Why can't MSN get things working before releasing them, they are doing themselves no favours.

So we'll all go to their competition, right?

MicroSoft (what the hell kind of man would name his company that?) has been doing this crap for a long time.  They actually don't care if the software works decently or not - they force the market to buy the new and unimproved version.  AND they get the users to beta test it and pay for the privilege.

Their profit margins are in the 60%-70% range.

I've had problems with Hotmail for the past couple months now, at least.....not receiving ones people sent, and people not receiving ones I sent.  (and it's not a junk mail problem, I check that every day)  I opened up a Gmail account, thinking that would solve all  my problems, but I had the same ones there, too.  I kinda give up.
