It always seemed to me that men were the majority of the posters on political subjects on the old forum, so I'm not surprised that it has carried over to here.

I think I might have begun to speak a time or two on a political topic but I usually drop out pretty quickly once it starts to get heated.   If the discussion is civilized such as the death penalty thread, then I'll participate, but otherwise, I don't even enter most of the discussions.  Not sure if it's really a man's club or most of the females would simply rather not participate in a "war".

This may be true for some women marie, but I miss the "fun spirited" heated debates
in Offtopic.
Is it just me, or are things getting real soft in "Off Topic" these days?

I fear it is going to end up being a dumping zone for cooking, weight loss, can't find a man/woman, all people on here are fake, what sign are you, and what sort of dogfood should I buy, and other similar threads.

Sort of like a Stephen King "Dead/Boring Topics Zone".
I realize many like those threads, but I like the heated/friendly  debates.
I will have to take up residence down here.

The political and religious posts tend to have more men than women participating but then there are cycles within the year that bring changes.  Right now many people are busy taking care of outdoor activities after being indoors most of the winter so some of us have less time to post.

Hiya Ven!
I did not say people were not posting as much, the men are posting away down here.

I said many women do not seem to post down here in Politics and Religion.

The weather maybe a factor, but I see women posting away on the other boards.

True, I was using the gender neutral "people".  I don't care for the threads that turn into personal bashing and will find other topics to read and post in when that starts to happen.  That may well be the case with other women too.

The weather's better on the other boards. It always seems to be hot and stormy here.

Unless you bring cigars and a good bottle of something, you can't enter the "boy's club" neener, neener..

Aw heck, it is just a perceptional thing, MzMia.  Plenty of political women.  Just some see the pointlessness of any particular discussion before us guys do ;)

Firm

Wait, stop the presses for a special edition.

Someone check if hell has frozen over.  I actually agree with Firm on something.

It seems as if both forums have been diluted.  People who used to post on political threads I don't see here anymore, and I think a lot of the people who post heavily in the politics section don't go to off topic that much anymore and miss threads they might otherwise have posted on.

It's also difficult to distinguish what topics belong in what category.  I've seen topics in both that were probably better suited for the other.  Not to mention that we recently had three torture threads, all talking about basically the same thing, but two running in the politics section and one running in off-topic.

Then again, it is fairly new, so maybe it will just take some time for people to regularly check each board.

And MzMia, I do agree, things are getting very soft over there.  I have to double-check sometimes to see if I haven't accidently logged in to the polls and random stupidity section.

Shup  .

You realize you're going to need a new hairstyle to go with that name, right?

And have you got enough pink clothing?

Has anyone else noticed that this section "Politics and Religion" has basically
become a "men's club", down here?
Of course, we do get women that drop by now and then, but it appears at least 80% of the
posts and posters down here are men.
I miss not seeing more women posting here.

I am not surprised that this has happened.

Has anyone else noticed this, does anyone care?

But in real life, is it not the same, politics and religion seems to be largely a male domain.

I also am with firm on this one, I thought a dedicated P&R forum was a bad idea, but such is life

...agreed wholeheartedly. If politics and religion are to have any meaning it has to be in the context of a wider debate.

GMTA...I was just thinking that but one thread in Off-Topic entitled "Does this top accent my breasts too much?" and there would be a vacuum left by the sudden rush from Politics and Religion

Or even multiple such threads
