ORIGINAL: DavanKael Being a creative, depressed kid, I was 'goth' before the term was coined. Davan That's not goth, thats emo !(Now).[:D] I grew up around and with the goths and new romantics in old London Town. None of them where particularly 'depressed'. Artistic absolutely and disillusioned yes, but depressed no. I think that there is simply similarities in dress, nothing more than that. the.dark. Lol, I'm talking about nearly 20 years ago; no one was running around calling anything goth (At least around where I lived but looking back, my style seemed to morph from metal chick to goth chick). Emo seems to be relatively new. I still haven't quite figured out wtf it is...looks like androgynous goth with some neon thrown in but that just may be indicative of me getting old. Gaaaack! Now I really am going to be depressed, lol! :> So, yo uthink it's entirely a happenstance of similar 'costuming', as it were? Davan 20 years ago Goth was in full swing depending on where you were, at least band wise, etc. Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Alien Sex Fiend, etc. I think the big difference these days is that it is much more of a clothing/fashion statement then just a scene involving like minded people into the same type of depressive music, books, horror, etc. I mean I came from the middle of nowhere and graduated in 87 and was fully aware of a goth scene and very into the music if not putting on fishnets and eye makeup and wandering around a graveyard. That said, I agree with a lot here that I have found most so called "Goths" to be extremely vanilla about other things, it seems they get all the alternative they need out of their dress/fashion etc.
