Milady Beckett- I have tried it with softer laid line (like crochet yarn) and it doesn't work well- the line I used for the picks stayed a bit bulkier than I wanted it to ( again, this was a rush job). 'Parachute' cord, sold at most hardware stores, seems to work best, and I usually 'gut' it- that is pull the core out of the outer braid to make it softer. As to french braiding, I don't know, but I dod once do a simple three plait braid with one part loosly docked, and it looked good, but came adrift within an hour or so. I need more victims!
