PARIS — Charge your iPod, kill a polar bear? The choice might not be quite that stark, but an energy watchdog is alarmed about the threat to the environment from the soaring electricity needs of gadgets like MP3 players, mobile phones and flat screen TVs. In a report Wednesday, the Paris-based International Energy Agency estimates new electronic gadgets will triple their energy consumption by 2030 to 1,700 terawatt hours, the equivalent of today's home electricity consumption of the United States and Japan combined

Wow, and then we go for plug-in electric cars?

Fortunately my motorcycle is "solar powered" ... it just has been stored in oil for centuries....

Oh wow, there are some people whom I would love to taser.  I charge my iPod on my computer, if I'm killing a polar bear, well, I'm sorry.  But my iPod is necessary to my mental health.    [:)]

We had this discussion, and shouldn't there be a solar charger for iPods like you get solar powered calculators?

Yes, there are solar chargers available. The problem with them is you can't sync the content with the solar chargers so you need to connect the 'Pods to the computer anyway.

Where the solar charger is handy is if one is on vacation and didn't bring the computer but only the iPod. Otherwise, what's the point?

I lost my iPod.  I can't believe it.  I need to replace it soon or I might have to off myself.

I would be devastated.  Mine goes with me everywhere.  I'm still in the newly addicted stage of love.
