Instead of a calf feeding of the teat when ever it was hungry? In nature when you're producing milk it's to feed a baby and  in dairy farms, they're expressing that milk all though out the day I do believe it's left to build up so that when finally milked they give more.

They are not expressing the milk all throughout the day, the cows aren't pumped continuously. It's not left to build up, because that would cause an infection and kill the cow. The cow is simply kept in a continued state of nursing. Naturally, a cows teat will return to normal size once it's young are done nursing.

slaveboy , what I mean is in nature if you have a calf, he or she is going to come suck your tit many times a day when ever they're hungry, in a dairy farm, they're milked once a day, from what little I know. So is there any harmful effect from deviating  from what an animal would do if left alone in nature, and what they do in dairy farms.

If there were any kind of problem I think it would have been brought out into the open many, many years ago. People have been drinking cows milk for hundreds, and probably thousands of years, and there has never been any reports that I know of saying there is anything detrimental about cows only being milked twice per day.

Now...the question I have is...why do people drink milk anyway? EVERY other mammal in the world weins their young from drinking milk, and yet humans in general tend to drink milk all their lives. I know it is a readily available source of calcium and various vitamines...but does nature know something that we don't?

A lot of people do it because health industries  have told us drinking milk is a healthy thing to do, and is a good source of calcium and other good for you things. However there's some evidence that the calcium in milk isn't readily absorb able as one would lead you to think.

And if you believe milk is healthy for you, why wouldn't you not drink it.

Some cows need to be milked twice a day because they are very productive. There are some dairy farms now that are automated to the point where the cows can actually decide when they are ready to be milked. They simply get in line at the milking parlor, where they will pass thru a sterilization station (cleans the udder and teats), then onto a rotating table that automatically hooks them up to the milking machine. A sample of the milk is drawn and tested, analyzed for quality and purity. If all is well the full milking operation is completed and processed. At these automated farms each cow's production is registered via computer (and electronic ear tags for identification) and the farmers have noted that many of their cows come in twice daily to be milked.

So from what I know of dairy farms, living in Wisconsin and near many of the farms, plus having one dairy farmer in the family, there is clearly no chronic problem from mulitple milkings. I can't say for certain that it does not affect some cows, but in general it seems ok.

They also eat their food raw and live without indoor heating, cooling, and plumbing, so what is your point, exactly?

Holstein dairy cattle are milked 2x daily in a commercial setting.
Milk does not "build up"- such a condition leads to mastitis.
Nature knows something we don't all right- it's not necessary for adults to consume milk.  Lactation requires extra nutrition (approx DOUBLE normal caloric intake), so in a natural setting a mother is best weaning her young as soon as that baby can provide for itself.
Also, because lactating animals do not come into estrus, it is counterproductive for a wild mammal to prolong lactation.  Getting back into estrus gives the opportunity to pass on your genes one more time.
Humans have consumed dairy products for centuries- and in many primitive societies, yogurt, cheese, and the like are important methods of preserving food for the times when fresh foods are not redily available.

Why do we drink milk?   -  cheap first class protein, that doesn't necessitate killing the animal to harvest it.
And no, milking once or twice a day doesn't harm the animal. (grew up on a dairy farm) These animals are an expensive investment for the farmer, and they do take care of their animals.
