I need suggestions. I have already called the vet (I have to wait for them to call me back).
I caught my cats licking and biting into my c pap hoses. they managed to poke holes in both hoses. This makes my c pap machine pretty useless at this point. I noticed them near it and told them no and caught my one cat licking the hose and then biting into it. Upon close inspection my hoses have over a dozen holes in them.

I have tried apple spray for electronics which didn't seem to deter my cat.

I am going to go to home depot and see if i can come up with something to protect my new hoses which i will have to get tomorrow.

Anybody have any suggestions? I can put my cats in another room but it is carpeted and there would have to be a litter box in the room.
They are 1 year and 4 mos old and 1 year and 8 mos old.

I have read that some cats love to chew on plastic bags etc. My one cat bites the plastic shower curtain until i took it out of the bathroom.
I cannot line the garbage cans with plastic because he chews on them. I have read in a book by a vet that some cats just love plastic.

this is a new behavior for the one cat. I didn't realize until recently that they were both doing this.

They are happy cats, fed well, played with and cuddled a lot. I am trying to figure out what to do with this.

Thanks for any suggestions...

Wrap your hoses completely in duct tape, its a good sealant and they will last longer, then a gentle spray with vinegar on the duct  tape--do that about 6 hours before you want to go to bed--

the duct tape hides the "playful sound of the air rushing" and the vinegar deters any attempt to bite.

Been there with a few submissives and my 6 cats!

I found this list of stuff cats hate the taste of.

A spraydown from a water bottle with a couple of drops each of rosemary, lemon and pepper essential oils sounds rather nice and might be reasonably effective.

When you get the new hoses, stop at a hardware store or home building supply and get some tubing or hose that will fit (loosely) over the top of your c-pap hoses. That way if the cats continue chewing (and you know they will) they will only be chewing thru the cover you just put on the real ones.

While the above suggestion of duct tape is good on the surface, in the long run a bad idea. As anyone who really knows the property of duct tape will tell you that is can easily become a very sticky mess over a short time.

Run the hoses through short lengths of PVC pipe, so the hoses can't be reached.  And don't sleep with your cats!  That is a tough one, I know.

The PVC trick works like a charm.
Avoid the duct tape- you will regret having gotten it on there when you can never get it completely off.

For a perfect set of tubes you are correct, however, please note she already has over a dozen holes in the tubing--and insurance etc frowns upon replacement of parts due to "perceived carelessness in  care of the equipment"--so she has to stabilize the equipment first, then deal with the cats.

Dr. Evil called... He wants his cat back.

You might try wrapping it in aluminum foil. I doubt they'd bite that. Another option is the plastic sleeve that is commonly used to protect engine compartment wiring. It is light in weight and has a slit down the side for easy installation. I don't think they'd like it. I'd try scotch tape on the holes before resorting to something like duct tape. If they've only bitten up part of the hose, you might be able to cut that section out and connect the ends with a plastic hose barb fitting. Also, replacement hose might not be that expensive at a good medical supplier.

Wire mesh. Get some of those thingies (a very technical term, I know) that you hang on the pipe that goes from the washing machine to the sink. Maybe called lint traps? They have some that are made from metal and you can lop the end off then thread your plastic pipe through that.

Yes a lot of kitties like plastic!

I had heard that, also.  Turns out my little guy will chew on anything, including aluminum foil.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how to stop him from chewing on my TV and Computer power chords...ugh.

Unfortunately I have no suggestions to the OP but will be curious to read continuing replies.

The  Tickey kitty loved my cpap hoses in the beginning. He had instructed me each morning when i got up to hang them over the shower doors in the bathroom. For whatever reason He did not have a desire to attack them while i was using them.... Apparently the 'newness' of it wore off because now his only issue with it is when he decides to sit on it and turn the machine on with his ass...
Good luck,
Kali
psst,  NuevaVida...Have You tried squirting the kitten with a water bottle? i've heard it works...never tried it..  We tried the aluminum foil thing, but that was not a real deterrent to him anyway.

Nueva your comment about chewing t.v. cords jogged my memory.
go to wiremold.com and look around for computer cords. It cuts to size. attach to any flat surface, you can also paint and stain it. It took me awhile to find it on the site but its on there.
Their phone number is 1800-617-1768. I doubt it will work for my c pap as this is square but it will hide a lot of cords.

I have been awakened at night by not having any air. My girl cat stepped on the machine and turned it off. I should have realized then what was gonna happen next....

I'd go to the pet store and get some bitter apple spray.  It's used to keep birds from chewing what they shouldn't be chewing and birds have few taste buds.  Should work great on kitties who have lots of taste buds and it won't hurt them.

The water bottle doesn't work anymore.  Now I have an ample supply of rubberbanks and a shot to the ass stops him from jumping up on the new flat screen TV and causing other problems.  Only thing about the chords is he chews them when I'm at work (I keep the TV covered when I'm not home now...ugh).

Thanks!!  I'll check that out.

As for closing the door at night, my litter box is in a carpeted area. It's a pain because it means vacuuming a lot, but I have a small hand-held dirt devil to pick up the morning litter spillings.

Keep the cats out of your bedroom during the night while you're using it and put the CPAP back into it's case during the day.

Tabasco on my wires worked pretty well.
