Do you go around afraid a lot? What is so scary about China? I mean other than their loack of concern for the environment, and some human rights issues. They have a huge vested interest in the rest of the world. If they nuke the US, who will by the majority of their exports and their assets on the vast amounts of money they have loaned us, go out the window. ..i answered your question kd, you just apparently misunderstood the answer. Let's break this down. We have a number of nuclear powers in the world. Some have reasonable safeguards in place, however all those countries have the possibility of zealots comng into power and misusing them. It's not really a question of who has these weapons, its a question of what is to be done about it. i'm thinking long term here. If we start picking and choosing which religious zealots are allowed to hold nuclear weapons then we are storing trouble up for ourselves long term. If we take a principled stand then there will be less trouble long term, because the charge of hypocrisy is effectively nullified. If we are going to forcibly disarm Iran, then we have to also forcibly disarm Israel. If we are not going to forcibly disarm Israel then we have no right to forcibly disarm Iran. The scaremongers want us to believe that Iran is attempting to get nukes in order to use them against Israel. This is a red herring. They are far more likely to be wanting them in order to prevent an invasion by the US. The nuclear arms issue can't be seen in a vacuum.

If you had said the above in the first place I could have understood your position...you were too vague or I was too hard headed...lol. You say you are looking long term but you are not... You present no realistic solution... Disarming existing nuclear powers is not going to happen in the real world. So that means we are left with two options. The first is to just let Iran...Korea...Syria or any other nation develop nuclear weapons. Then hope in the future they don't use them and we can negotiate world nuclear disarmament. This is a dangerous pipe dream that will further destabilize the world. The second is to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons now as mandated in the UN NPT. Hopefully this can be accomplished through diplomacy but if not then I believe force is warranted. We have no obligation to keep the playing field equal in the Middle East by allowing Nuclear weapons… This would be lunacy. We will have to disagree on who is more likely to use nuclear weapons… The Middle East has proven to be a home of radicals beyond reason and I would trust them much less than say Russia or China to use these weapons wisely. I also disagree on your red herring. Iran is a destabilizing entity in the Middle East. Their provocative actions and stances show they have designs on dominating the region. They understand that they cannot pursue these ambitions because of the military strength of Israel and its supporter the US. So the bottom line… they are not developing a nuclear weapon to stop a US invasion but hold the US and Israel militaries at bay while the pursue their ambitions of dominance in the region. Butch

Saddam Hussein said he was going to annihilate Israel, and we went to war. Now Iran is saying they are going to annihilate Israel. The point is I'm glad Obama is saying he is going to try everything NOT to attack Iran. But I don't think Israel has that much restraint. Israel will attack Iran, and they want the US to back them up. I don't think we will. Also, if you haven't noticed, China is slowly but surely buying up the US. There is no reason for another country to do that, except to take over. When we get to the point that we say no we aren't going to do this any more, and perhaps decide not to pay them back, China could take extreme measures. I'm not saying it WILL happen, I'm just saying that is the way China is going right now. China scares me because of their intent. No communist country is going to just give the US money to "help us out". They have a reason and a purpose.
