To clear up why I feared China having nuclear weapons, not to start a discussion on the economy.

Isn't that another topic?

Also, if you haven't noticed, China is slowly but surely buying up the US.  There is no reason for another country to do that, except to take over.  When we get to the Tpoint that we say no we aren't going to do this any more, and perhaps decide not to pay them back, China could take extreme measures.  I'm not saying it WILL happen, I'm just saying that is the way China is going right now.
China scares me because of their intent.  No communist country is going to just give the US money to "help us out".  They have a reason and a purpose.

What would have happened to all those US firms without Chinese investment ?

Hardly, since I was replying to your quote about China. Now if China is another topic, why did you introduce it ?

Okay i can understand that. You dont have to worry though, China is investing in the US to make money. The same reason the US invests in overseas company. IF China wanted a war, why did they invest and not just start one.

No,it isn't another topic...you do realise one can only buy what is being offered for sale.
By the way who the fuck would we be thinking we are when we decide "we aren't going to do this anymore, and perhaps decide not to pay them back."
So we just encourage massive Chinese investment in our economy ...and you envision we get mad at the investors....and just tell them to go fuck themselves?
Is that how an honorable country does business in your world?

Sounds like US foreign policy to me (as a non US citizen)(thereby excluding all US citizens from any creditworthy response!)

Or maybe the Mayan prediction is right (not that I am superstitious) and they're just moving in ready to take over?

I am of the mind that we (the generic we) have no place meddling in the affairs of a sovereign state. How would you take it if Iran decided that the US should no longer have the bomb?

I'm all for disarmament...but is that going to happen? Will it make the world a safer place if Iran has a nuclear bomb?

You must be practical…fair has not a damn thing to do with it. And the majority of world governments agree with me.

I am not alone in this thinking …in fact I am just following the UN resolution.

We are talking about something that not only can kill millions but will also make great areas of our world uninhabitable. With this as a possible result of nuclear war do you really care about the feelings and pride of Iranians?

Unfortunately this was all more real in the years before i was even conceived - not long after we "did what we had to do" to end World War II.  (if we hadn't have done that, how many years would the war have continued to drag out at at the tune of how many lives - not just American, but internationally?).

Then we wound up dealing with the Bay of Pigs and Cuba.  And the threat of nuclear death - at any moment.  Then....I was born.

Now it's hollywood - starting with the Sum of All Fears - right to the tv series Jericho (which i loved), and i'm not even sure after "the day after" that's about to launch.

From what i understand, "BACK THEN" - it was real.  You just dealt with it.  The world was going to end any day.  Today, i'm afraid no one truly takes this seriously.  I don't really want anyone to have the bomb.  Period.  I wish it had never been developed.  But it has.  and that's a fact of life we must all live with.  Sooner or later, someone is going to get a little too nervous, a little too scared, of convince themselves there is no other choice....and the rest of us....will have no say in the matter.

Unfortunately.

I think this speaks volumes.  So how do you all think Israel is going to react to this?

How about leading by example then?
If the US would destroy all their nuclear weapons first, it might not smell so strong of hypocrisy when they demand that an other country refrains from developing them in the first place.

You know, all those gun discussions come to mind. Nuclear weapons do not kill people, people kill people ...

That would be great...I mean that...now do you think it will happen?

If the US led by example and destroyed its entire nuclear arsenal do you believe that would make one bit of difference to Korea …India…Iran…or Pakistan?

Do you really believe Russia and China will praise our leadership and destroy theirs?

There is wishing and wanting…then there is the bare reality... which should we deal with?

The question is, who gave us (generic again) the right to deal with it?

Uh huh. Hope all these ideas and theories work for you. Mutual assured destruction is what keeps most nuclear armed countries from using nukes. Personally I would like to see no nukes, but that is not realistic. Also, the US did not rule the world because of nukes, it was because of industrial and financial might that we became a leading nation.

quote:

ORIGINAL: MissSepphora1

We nuked Japan, and then what happened... we ruled the world... well you know what I mean.
You don't have to use a nuke everywhere.  just one or two precision strikes would do it.

Keep in mind, people, that this is the same genius who back in January said "I can only hope Obama has another crisis like 9/11. And then we'll see if he cowars [sic]like Clinton did" on this thread:
