Do you know this Moron ? ... (I might be wrong, maybe he knows something that no one else does? )

http://timesandseasons.org/index.php/2009/05/anyone-know-john-william-yettaw/

US citizen strikes a blow against the hopes of democracy ? ... Seems that way folks!
(Is he on the Burmese "government" payrol? )
If he ever gets out, will the US have him back?

What will Obama do? ... nothing or too little too late? Where is the US envoy? Why no "intervention"?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/8057865.stm

Is the US going to stand by and watch ... ? What kind of weak "moral" "superpower" would be chickenshit enough to turn their backs on this woman? (now the US embraces Mandella, yet once it behaved the same way towards him)

If  this "power" exists ... then it will not take long. I fear the worst and because the lessons of the past are clear ... this time there will be no excuse. Whomsoever does or says nothing is a cowardly arselicking moneymonger.
US Moron Yettaw has either made or broke Burma's hopes for democracy,if the US does not deal with this it will carry a burden of shame forever.

And what can anyone do to change the Burmese governments minds short of invading?

JonnieBoy -> RE: United States Moron ? (5/19/2009 5:06:47 PM)

The US power of democracy of course, it's world media capabilities, it's ability to identify the Moron as a "loose" cannon
(who was mad enough to invade someone's house arrest without invitation ... very US American) and of course the US justice principles that would NEVER (we shall see) invade anywhere without exhausting it's democratic principles to the limit first.

US Moron ... disowned? or still a "citizen"? ... (we shall see) (and we know which is the "cheap" option here) (I don't recall Burma having any influence on the global flow of ... ... yes ... you guessed it ... OIL !)

We shall see if the US has principles in this test. It will not be ignored outside of the US and cannot be underestimated..

I personally volunteer to strangle the fucker with my bare hands whenever the ass wipe fails to give what I ( yes) consider to be a just cause for him to live.
If the US does not make a signifcant statement of excuse today then the world will see it's broken teeth and twisted smile ( by the way,I have a few gallons of OIL to sell .... name your price)
We live in a multi - media time ... shame on you USA you could have stepped in by now (at very little cost)

As a nation, are you really stupid enough to think that this has got fuck all to do with you?

This is a milestone in US ignorance if a woman gets 5 years in a Burmese jail and it stands in the way of "democracy" because of one looney (yes...looney) Wake the fuck up ... these are the fuckwits that get you looked down on ... surely there is someone out there who can still think ?            .......................   nahaa , maybe that was extreme wishful thinkng

I can understand your outrage, but just what is it you would have the US do?  Are you really under the impression that this situation has been ignored?

Yes, Yettaw's actions were stupid, but they in no way "broke Burma's hopes for democracy".  How dramatic of you to place the blame for decades of military suppression squarely on his shoulders.  Honestly... do you really think that the junta was going to release Suu Kyi at the end of May and just peacefully turn over control to her?  Do you believe that the junta would peacefully honor the results of the upcoming election any more than they did in 1990?

And what of the responsibility that Suu Kyi has over her own destiny?  She did allow Yettaw to stay at her house... she knew it was against the law.  He was turned away once; why was he allowed to come back and stay not just one night, but two?  Surely, she must have known that the democracy of all of Burma was being jeopardized by his presence.   [8|] Why wasn't he reported and turned in?

Suu Kyi's plight is sad, but she has had several opportunities for freedom.  She has purposely refused those opportunities to make a stand for what she believes in.  Some even believe her actions have exacerbated the suffering of her people... that the sanctions and policies put in place to protest her incarceration have denied much needed aid to Burma and harmed its economy.

As for Yettaw, is the US supposed to waltz into another country and take over responsibility for prosecution of one of its citizens for breaking the law?  Yettaw has given them yet another excuse to further detain Suu Kyi... not that they've ever needed one; and you think they'll just turn him over to the US and forget the whole thing?  Are we supposed to go in with guns blazing?

Pfft... really.  "Is the US going to stand by and watch?"  Try googling.  There is loads of information out there about what has been said and done for the past decade.  Here's a small start:

Statement By Senator John Mccain Regarding The Imprisonment Of Aung San Suu Kyi

Crisis in Rangoon

Obama extends sanctions against Yangon junta

Oh... and by the way, the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution states that citizenship cannot be divested, whether as punishment for a crime or for any other reason, by the states or the federal government, including their agencies and officials.

lol... Sorry, but stupidity falls into the "for any other reason" category.  Good thing, too.  Imagine where all the English only speaking morons would move to if they couldn't live in the US anymore.  [;)]

Speaking of cowardly, instead of hiding behind these issues you are supposedly so concerned with, why not just start a thread on your hatred of the United States?

I mean really, it comes across clearly in this thread, and in every post I've seen you make in this forum.

You never seriously discuss the ramifications of any issue, you just use it as an excuse to bash America and Americans.

This thread is a perfect example.  You want to take one nutcase who does something stupid and use it to indict all Americans as well as the U.S. government.

You do realize this was the very same Myanmar government that refused typhoon relief supplies for its own people because it feared it would be invaded and overthrown?

Do you honestly think if this incident had not happened that she would have been released and allowed to be a threat to the military junta?

Myanmar lets diplomats visit Suu Kyi, opens trial - World AP ...Critics say the bizarre charge of hosting an uninvited foreign intruder is part of a plot by the military regime to keep 63-year-old Suu Kyi locked up during elections scheduled for next year.

Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy won the last election in 1990 by a landslide but the military refused to allow the party to take power.

.................."The access we had today was welcome, but doesn't change the fundamental reality," British Ambassador Mark Canning told the British Broadcasting Corp., referring to the belief that Suu Kyi is being unfairly held and tried. "All the paraphernalia of the courtroom was there, the judges, the prosecution, the defense. But I think this is a story where the conclusion is already scripted."

Not applicable, thats why. If anything it would have to be something on the oversensitivity of multitudes (not all,by all means)of  US citizens to anything but unquestioning approval of the actions or inactions of their fellows.

Hmmm?  Oversensitive?  I don't know, let's take a look:

What kind of weak "moral" "superpower" would be chickenshit enough to turn their backs on this woman?

Certainly nothing inflammatory there.

If  this "power" exists ... then it will not take long. I fear the worst and because the lessons of the past are clear ... this time there will be no excuse. Whomsoever does or says nothing is a cowardly arselicking moneymonger.

Another very well thought out reasonable argument.

US Moron Yettaw has either made or broke Burma's hopes for democracy,if the US does not deal with this it will carry a burden of shame forever.

Makes perfect sense to me.  One disturbed individual has ruined the hopes of a country's democracy, without a doubt.

Because we all know if this hadn't happened she would have been released, democracy would have flourished, the flowers would be blooming, the birds singing, and all would be well.

Suu Kyi's detention history:
  • Arrested, 20 July 1989: placed under house arrest in Rangoon under martial law that allows for detention without charge or trial for three years[48]
  • Released, 10 July 1995: released from house arrest.
  • Arrested, 23 September 2000: placed under house arrest.
  • Released, 6 May 2002: freed after 19 months of house arrest.
  • Arrested. 30 May 2003, Following the Depayin massacre she was held in secret detention for over 3 months before being returned to house arrest.
  • 25 May 2007: house arrest extended by one year.
  • 24 October 2007: reached 12 years under house arrest, solidarity protests held at 12 cities around the world Burma Campaign UK.
  • 27 May 2008: Myanmar's military junta extended her house arrest another year.
(Aung San Suu Kyi - Wikipedia)

If the US does not make a signifcant statement of excuse today then the world will see it's broken teeth and twisted smile ( by the way,I have a few gallons of OIL to sell .... name your price)

I don't know about this one.  I'm starting to get the feeling you don't like us very much.

Nah!  Must be my imagination, you really seem very fair-minded.

This is a milestone in US ignorance if a woman gets 5 years in a Burmese jail and it stands in the way of "democracy" because of one looney (yes...looney) Wake the fuck up ... these are the fuckwits that get you looked down on ... surely there is someone out there who can still think ?            .......................   nahaa , maybe that was extreme wishful thinkng.

Yes, You were completely right, my mistake and my sincere apologies.

You've presented some wonderfully fair and reasonable arguments here.

It's just my own American oversensitivity to being called a cowardly, chickenshit, arselicking moneymonger, who is ignorant and unable to think.

Thankfully we have the wisdom and refinement of our eloquent European friends to correct our American ignorance.

JonnieBoy -> RE: United States Moron ? (5/21/2009 4:24:28 PM)

Fair and reasonable? I did not make that claim.

I did not claim to be able to influence any change either.

Nothing personal etc.

If I were to start a thread about a hatred of the US it would be insincere for a start as well as rather surprising to my wife (a US citizen).

Politics is an area of discussion where one might sensibly expect comments of a thought provoking nature, it seems fair to say that you are experiencing just that.

I've honestly missed the thought provoking comments. What I read was hyperbole of the worst sort.
