What does the word "slut" mean to you?
If you are a male submissive, do you see it as humiliating or an insult?
Is it exciting without being insulting?
How to female submissives experience the word slut in humiliating scenes? Is it just a way to release the angst of the past or is it a true liberation of a sexual being tightly witheld?
I was watching a documentary recently about the evolution of the word slut from the victorian era to the present. The documentary was entitled SLUT and directed by Rina Barone and Patricia DiTillio. Provocative is an understatement to describe the intrigueing film.
The documentary was interesting on several levels. I found it interesting on a linguistic level, a cultural level, a psychological level and also from a very personal level.
I learned that word slut has evolved from meaning slovenly or a poor housekeeper to meaning a woman of ill repute, a husband stealer, or a tramp. The documentary also said that similar words exist in other languages that have the sl phonetic component and are pretty closely tied in meaning.
The psychic effects of the word can be devestating to women. The word is used as a way to put women in their place by women and men alike. Any woman can be affected by the word. Women who are too sexual or their boobs are too pronounced, or women who get too much attention from men are labeled by many and with devestating results to their personal lives. The film made the point that women don't even have to be guilty of promiscuity to get the label.
And then in more recent history, to see that some people have reclaimed the word and changed the meaning for themselves, is refreshing and powerful. No woman should be afraid of her powerful sexuality due to a fear of being labeled. The concept of sexual promiscuity or open and proud sexuality is really a part of a double standard. In traditional society, it is okay for men to be sexually forward but not women. Society blames women who are overtly sexual, but isn't it a natural gift to be a sexual being?
I've been called slut and worse, and yet have learned to accept myself and love myself as a whole. I accept the darker aspects of my sexuality along with the more loving aspects. I think that learning to understand even the deepest and darkest desires of your heart is part of being at peace.
The word slut really doesn't bother me the way it used to because I've come to realize that all people are sexual no matter how much they hide it behind closed doors or victorian attitudes. In fact, some of the most victorian are the most kinky. I think being open for me is almost a necessity.
I think the way that I first started getting "slut" out of my system is through a kind of reverse role play with male submissives where I was able to call them bitch or slut and treat them as I had been treated. Some might see that as reverse sexism, and maybe it could be if you took it to the extreme of female supremacy of which I am no fan. On the other hand, the experience can be quite balancing as a role play if it is SSC.
To answer one of the questions that I posed earlier, I have found that many men do not see the word as really that humiliating in the same way that women do and actually get very turned on by being objectified in the right circumstances.
