Hi. Has anyone ever heard of and/or used the Diva Cup while on your period? I just heard of this and got one and tried it today. OMG, it HURT!! (And not in a good way!) The first time I know I had it inserted wrong, but the second time I think I had it inserted more correctly, but it still was very uncomfortable. The instructions said to get the larger size if you are over 30, even if you haven't had kids, but I think it was too big. The smaller size is only 1/8 of an inch smaller than the larger size though (which isn't much.) Anyway, if anyone has any tips or pointers in how to use this product, I'd appreciate it. Also, has anyone tried the Instead Soft Cups? I thought if the Diva Cup didn't work out I might try those. Thanks Ma'ams and gals!!

Hmmmm....I've never used this product, but after looking at the manufacturer's site, it's looking like something to try, and just in time [:)] Here is some info I got from the site: Q. Are there any expanded insertion techniques? A. To ensure proper insertion, carefully read and follow the instructions. Make sure that you aim it horizontally towards your tailbone and that you are able to make one full rotation. Also, try running your finger around the cup pushing it against the opposite side of the vaginal wall. The stem may be trimmed for comfort. You may want to use another method – the “push down” method: push one side of the cup into itself, then pinch the sides together. The DivaCup sits lower than the cervix, so it is important to aim it toward the tailbone not “up”. Your cup could be positioned at an angle, so you may need to push the cup (toward your tailbone, not up) slightly further. Please try this little tip: put the cup in about half way, turn the cup one full rotation and then push it the rest of the way in. Since it will open up before inserting fully, you will know that it is has fully opened and that you will create the seal for it to stay in place; therefore, the cup should not give you any discomfort. With a bit of practice it will only take a few seconds to insert and remove it correctly. Q. What should I do if the stem irritates my vaginal opening? A. If the stem irritates the vaginal opening once it is positioned correctly, you may remove the cup and trim the stem slightly. Please use a sharp embroidery or fingernail scissor to round the hard edge to prevent further irritation. There are also suggestions on different ways to fold it, though these may be included in the package instructions. Sorry I can't offer more advice. It looks like it's one of those practice makes perfect things.

I've used a Diva cup for years and wouldn't use anything else. When I first started using it, I had some problems making sure it was inserted properly but with practice, as with all things, it's gotten a lot easier. I can tell immediately if it's placed wrong. Now, I find that I have much less cramping on my period and less "accidents". The Diva is not for someone faint of heart or uncomfortable with exploring their own bodies yet I swear by them. They're economical (the only reason I've had to replace mine several times is because the bloody ferrets used to steal and stash them and I could never find the dang thing!) easily clean up, great to travel with, and for me, extremely comfortable. My suggestion would be to give it some time, explore and practice. I know that when I first tried one, I spent sometime in the washroom just practicing with it. I've learned what works for me and what doesn't. If it's hurting, you might not have it properly positioned under the cervix. Otherwise, it's like a tampon, you shouldn't really feel it when it's properly inserted. Feel free to cmail me if you have more questions. What Lady Rainfire said. Well, with the exclusion of the ferret thing. [:D] Honestly, I love the Diva Cup. It nearly eliminated cramping for me.

[:D] A lady I knew told me that she used to swipe her mom's sanitary napkins to use as mattresses for her Barbie dolls when she was little.

I tried Instead when they first came out. Useless, they would come out if I sneezed.
