It seems to me that it would look awesome on my profile also. Please don't worry, I'll be sure to give you credit somewhere deep in the journal. I wouldn't want to deceive anyone, now would I?

You truly have no real way of verifying that one's appearance is what their picture shows them to be. Its unfortunate, but it happens. You will always find that there are fakes out there. All you can do is ensure that you remain safe when you meet them, and hope that they are who they say they are.

So what did you lose, exactly? 15 minutes chatting at a coffee shop. You still got the coffee to drink. Basically, meet quickly for just that, a cup of coffee. If they show and you like them great, if not you still got to sit down and drink a cup of coffee. If you dislike them intensely, then you walk out after 5 minutes, taking your coffee with you.

Welcome to real life where people lie about their age, weight, careers etc all the time.

I agree with you completely. What I find most upsetting about this post is that it would appear that multiple on line conversations had taken place and there was a definate interest the OP had in what he "fake" had to say and their conversations. Granted we are still lacking details of how he was different from his picture and what she may have said to the guy regarding that. After having stimulating on line conversation, his looks were her biggest concern. Without knowing HOW different he looked, it comes off as being very superficial. Compatibility based almost solely on appearance is not a good way to go.

I really would like to know how he looked different, and what was said about it.

Misrepresentation has happened to anyone who is looking to meet others online. It's frustrating as hell but there is no way to stop it. As others have mentioned webcams are a good tool and my personal favorite is to meet asap. Not only can you verify the photos and other information but you can really see if there is a connection or interest on both sides or not.

My big thing is wondering what people get out of giving out this fake info or pictures when there is the intent to meet the ones they are giving it too. Like we're not going to notice they are a lot heavier, older, or worse looking than the picture that was offered?

As I have written at other forums, when meeting people online at first, you do not actually meet people...you meet something called a profile.

First, a profile is only a side view and by definition, only partial.

Second, whether most accept this or not, a profile is a form of advertisement not out for a sale but at least some attention.

Once there it is up to each prospective profiler to seek out all the confirming info necessary for a satisfactory first meeting. That should include photo(s) that in fact reliably establish physical identity.

I had one guy in his 20's emailed me twice saying I look too young for 50. I sent him a picture of me without make-up and his reply was Yes you look like your picture. There are days I do and days I don't look picture perfect. We all are like that.

Yes its true people are heavier or smaller in their pictures. I look fatter in some. But I also bounce 5 lbs a month. 5 up 5 down, 5 up 5 down. Makes a big difference in photo. Took photos yesterday and I look like crap.

I really don't think there's a way to "safe guard" yourself from fakes/phoney's online, I usually chat w/the person on cam before meeting in person, that way you can view your potential "stalker" before meeting, lol, *jokin*...or was I?????
