What movies have you liked so far? To which ones are you looking forward? Disappointments? Hell, what movies would you like to see get made? (While we're at it, ya know . . . . . )

This is shaping up as a possibly 'good' year for movies, for me.

I'm particularly looking forward to:

Guy Ritchie's 'Sherlock Holmes' (due at Xmas, at this time);

The upcoming Bruce Willis scifi-action-adventure pic, 'Surrogates';

& the 'Land of the Lost' flick -- it looks like truly cheesy fun (so sue me, I like Will Ferrell) . . . . .

So far it's break even for me; I liked the Trek flick a lot, but the Terminator flick was an , 'eh' *shrugs* kinda thing . . ..

& I'm still waiting for the 'Pern' books to get made into movies; I've given up on Varley's Gaia trilogy getting made into the epic animation it oughta be . . . . . . .

I'm just a big ole Harry Potter fan.  Everything else I wait for the video that will be out in 6 months or less anyway.

~FR~

I really can't wait for one called "The Big Gay Musical" as it has one of my favorite adult film stars in it

Plus it's a musical. And incredibly gay. I'm, like, doubly obligated to love it (just joking!)

Otherwise, I've not seen anything that's made me interested enough to jump out to the theaters.

Oh, that's right, there's a Harry Potter movie coming out . . ...

That leads to another way I use trailers & such, identifying 'must own' movies: for instance, the box set of the Potter flicks is definitely on my list for whenever in the future . . . ..

Yeah, I understand what you mean, LafayetteLady. I love silly comedies, but mostly wait for them to come out on DVD. I did spot a 'must own' amongst the trailers so far this season: 'Year One' . . . . . I just adore Jack Black & Michael Cera, & I love this kinda thing. Very stupid, very silly. & while I won't bother seeing it in the theater, I will probably add it to my library, right next to Mel Brooks' 'History of the World' . . . ... .

My own criteria for paying for an actual theater ticket is 'big spectacle' kinda flick. Lots of crashy-bangy, wild fx, & all that . . . . . . I like going to the movies, always have. & we do it as a family, it's one of our little treats. Plus in this part of the world it's bloody freaking hot in the summer & the theaters are deliciously cold at the hottest, & more reasonably priced, times of day . . . . . lol

Actually, the Harry Potter movies are about the only thing that my son will do with me anymore.  Damn teenagers!  He probably won't even go with me this year, I will have to go with his friends!  I'm the "second mom" to most of them, and they make sure that I can taken care of, help with whatever I need.  Good bunch of boys.  Hopefully they will shame my kid into going to one lousy movie with his old, disabled mom.

skip the The Land of the Lost movie - worst Will Ferrell outing ever. I do remember watching the cheesy 70s show on CBS every Saturday ...he made it even cheesier that I'm so glad I didn't have to pay for the screening.

i skipped the critics screening for Imagine That - Eddie Murphy in another kid's movie spare me the headache.

Terminator Salvation - it's ok unless you like Christian Bale doing his post-war Bruce Wayne voice throughout the movie

Transformers 2 - rocked ...slightly better than the 1st

other movies recently screened
Public Enemies (with Johnny Depp, Christian Bale looks better in this than Terminator)

Drag Me to Hell (i love a good creepy Sam Rami movie)

Night at the Museum 2 (the girls loved it)

Thanks, sambamanslilgirl. Very cool that you go to advance screenings! Please keep us updated on what you see, I look forward to hearing your take on the wave of flicks heading towards theaters . . . . .

I have not seen a Will Ferrell movie I did not like, so I'm curious about your opinion on his other flicks . . . . For instance, what one did you like best, & which was the worst? I'm mostly asking to 'calibrate' how our interests coincide; I'll probably go see the Land of the Lost, in the theater, but I just adore him. He can run around acting like an ass & I'm delighted. I know, it's some kinda sickness or weakness, lol . . . .. .

Thanks for pointing me towards those other flicks . ... Anything Depp is yummy, & that Raimi horror flick looks interesting (tho' I tend to only watch horror around Halloween anymore, part of my autumnal rituals, lol . .. .)

& philosophy, I'm a big animation fan too, tho' mostly they end up in my 'must buy DVD' list more than my 'go to the theater' list; I did go see 'Wall-e' en theatre twice last year, however, so . . . .*shrugs* . . . . I never know what I'll end up seeing . .. .

I'm trying to put links to trailers up (from the official sites for each movie) for all of these movies we're discussing, but if not I'm putting up the IMDb link for that flick, jus' cuz sometimes this demon's a nice demon, hehehehe . . . . . Well, that & I love trailers; sadly, sometimes that's the best part of the movie going experience, the trailers, lol . . .. .

Up

Ice Age

Imagine That

Terminator Salvation

Transformers 2

Public Enemies

Drag Me to Hell

Night at the Museum 2

Well, I checked out Night at the Museum 2, this weekend, and... well... aside from being technically brilliant, the story was actually pretty dull... the best thing about it is watching Hank Anerzaria(sp?) play an egyptian pharoh, with a Karfoff accent. :)

"Up" is the next one I'm looking forward to, and the Harry Potter flick.

"9" looks interesting... (Tim Burton producing)

...as does "District 9"

"Planet 51" looks like a fun, no-brain computer animated story about an explorer from Earth being considered a monster from space (a-la 1950's horror flicks) when he lands on the titular world.

I plan on missing T4, Land of the Lost, Transformers 2, and pretty much anything else that is based on a TV show or that has a sequel numeral behind it. (I'm looking at you, Alvin and the Chipmonks II!)  Same with "Aliens in the Attic," "2012" and the latest Tarentino cruelty and bloodletting fest, "Inglorius Basterds." Bleh!

I'm thinking I may take in "The Girlfriend Experience," the new take on "Astro Boy" (I've been a fan of the character since I was 6) and certainly I'll be taking in Michael Moore's new film that is an update on the War on Terror since "Farenheit 9/11"

But so far... the best I've seen this summer is "Trek." Sat through it three times so far, and if this is the best the early summer has to offer... I may be going back a couple more times in July, just to escape the heat.

not really all that excited for anything coming out this year (yet)

kind of disappointed that Takashi Miike has caught the "lets remake every thing" bug
(he's still fucking awesome, if you haven't seen ichi the killer, see it NOW)

I'm more then a little tired of seeing(as classic as they may be) old stories and tv shows being converted into movies, if they're going to pay top dollar for writers, why not have them write something original.

I'll hold out too much expectations for the 'drag me to hell" movie till I see it, as much as I love the evil dead series, I think sam rimi(or how ever you spell his name) may be one of the many film makers who actually does better with less of a budget and executive oversight(like goerge lucas), then again, he may just need to return to his roots.Every body has the clinche, the same fucker who ruined batman is the one who made a great phantom of the opera movie after all.....

the reason why i didn't like Land Of the Lost was because Will Ferrell was being Will Ferrell in Semi-Pro or in Blades of Glory or (insert any recent movie here). i did enjoy his other movies however the gimmick is wearing thin. the movie itself was like watching the cheesy 70s show all over again though this one has better fx. there are some funny parts which are currently shown on commercials.

i do want to see the re-make of Taking of Pelham123 (i like the original) - John Travolta as the bad guy again ...sounds promising.

This is the only movie that itches at my curiosity.  Still, it was a book that sparked imagination and movies have a way of extinguishing that life.  I'll try to reserve my hopes, but I'm not sure if I can lock my mind to allow another to do this movie for me.

I have enjoyed: Wolverine, Inkheart, The Spirit, Watchmen, surprisingly Dragonball Evolution, Star Trek. I tend to see more movies on DVD than in the theater due to BP's travel schedule.

I am looking forward to:
The Taking of Pelham 123, Transformers 2, Public enemy, Ice Age 3
Harry Potter half Blood Prince, G-Force, G.I.Joe, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Fame, Astro Boy, Planet 51, Sherlock Holmes, Sin City 2
and more as they come up and catch my interest.

I would LOVE to see the Laurell Hamilton Anita Blake series brought to the big screen, as well as Kelley Armstrong's Ladies of the Otherworld series, Kim Harrisons Rachel Morgan series (Dead Witch walking, etc.) and Mercedes Lackeys' serrated Edge series for those who enjoy Elves, Fast cars and Magic ( would be a great date movie series with something for everyone). I gave up on Pern being done AGES ago. A remake of the Circus of Dr. Lao would be appreciated I suspect only by me.
