Another apology in the making?  Stay tuned.

Ridge takes aim at Limbaugh
CNN Political Ticker – Sun May 24, 6:36 am EDT

(CNN) — Pennsylvania Republican Tom Ridge is taking direct aim at Rush Limbaugh, telling CNN's John King the conservative talk radio host can be "shrill" and uses language in a way "that offend very many."

"Rush Limbaugh has an audience of 20 million people. A lot of people listen daily to him and live by every word. But words mean things and how you use words is very important," Ridge, the former Homeland Security Secretary under President Bush, said during an interview airing Sunday on CNN's State of The Union.

"It does get the base all fired up and he's got a strong following," Ridge continued. "But personally, if he would listen to me and I doubt if he would, the notion is express yourself but let's respect others opinions and let's not be divisive."

The comments come in the wake of a war of words between Limbaugh and Colin Powell, during which the former secretary of state suggested the GOP's future was in peril if it went in the direction of the popular radio talker. Limbaugh quickly hit back, proclaiming Powell is part of the "stale, the old, the worn-out GOP that never won anything."

He may know HS, but he clearly doesnt have a clue about radio ratings. He seems to be buying in to the Dems trying to cast Limbaugh as an actual leader of the party. But the last RNC showed his real "Spectrem". Its what you need to get elected in Pa. .. centrist and able to change your colors when necessary. Rendell is about as conservative a Democrat as you'll find, and they failed to re-elect the only real conservative voice in the state.

Never mind.  It must be the pain pills.

TheHeretic -> RE: Ridge takes aim at Limbaugh (5/24/2009 4:39:29 PM)

Did Tom Ridge go on CNN to talk about Limbaugh, or was the question asked while he was being interviewed for something else?

I love it. Divide and conquer! This house, the GOP is divided against itself, and cannot stand.

Ridge will get spanked by Limbaugh, and he'll end up either apologizing, or being cast out into the wilderness with Megan McCain, and other moderate Republicans,

In the end, the once bright star of Reagan's "conservative movement" (which stressed hope and the vitality of America, rather than this sad ass, feces-flinging that the party is engaging in currently) has gone nova, blowing off it's outer layer of support and belief. Now, it's fuel expended, the tiny core of the GOP will collapse in upon itself. All that will be left is a dark, dense (really dense, in the mental meaning of the word) core made up of extremist members and hate speech mongering radio hosts...and all they care about is the energy given off by them in the form of ratings and catch phrases... Any new candidates for the GOP, with fresh new, energetic ideas, who stray too close to them will be torn apart by their tidal forces of rhetoric and dogma...

Thus we see the death of the Republican party...

The same thing was said of the donkeys when the best they could come up with was Gore and Kerry. It all goes in cycles.

MrRodgers -> RE: Ridge takes aim at Limbaugh (5/24/2009 5:23:04 PM)

This will continue to marginalize RL and soon he will be back to only the most ditto of dittoheads listening which may well precipitate a loss for Clear Channel for his time slot.

If the liberal dream of localism is ever realized he'll be relegated to satellite radio anyway.

I`d be happy to get him booted from Armed Services Radio.

Let's hope he's a better shot than Cheney.

MarsBonfire -> RE: Ridge takes aim at Limbaugh (5/24/2009 7:58:28 PM)

Oh, I doubt that, Cruel. No one on the neo-con side of things has the gift for astronomical metaphor that I have. At best, they could only scratch their sides and make grunting noises like neandethals. My comments stand up like a Kubrickian symbol against the sky, while they cantered and gibbered around the base of the smooth black lines of my monolithic statements, and throw jawbones at it in sheer terror. :)

servantforuse -> RE: Ridge takes aim at Limbaugh (5/24/2009 8:33:40 PM)

Why are all of you liberals so obsessed with what Rush Limbaugh says on his daily radio show ? You don't even listen to it. I think that he is on nearly 700 stations now. That will probably not change in the near future. Let it go..You would all feel a little better if you had a liberal on the radio that was 1/10 as popular.. You do have tax payer supported PBS to listen to though. enjoy..

MarsBonfire -> RE: Ridge takes aim at Limbaugh (5/24/2009 8:42:35 PM)

I guess we'll just have to settle for being in an ever widening majority...

I personally don't like either party having too much control. But let's face it: over the last eight years, these bastards attempted to fuck over the US, and the world at large. They used the US Constitution for toilet paper. As such, I'm quite happy to see them dissapear up their own assholes, and some OTHER, more moderate party, come into existence to replace them.

They had their shot, and they turned the US into a defacto dictatorship, and a torture state. Bush, Cheany, Rumsfeld, Rove, Gonzales.. the whole rouges gallery should be serving hard time.

Fuck 'em.

With very few exceptions the other side is the one with the Rush problem....most Democrats are more than happy to allow him him to continue as is....He is doing more for the Democratic party than most anyone else aside from the President...Steele and moderate Republicans are the ones being asked the questions....Face it Rush is the 300 lb. gorilla of Republican politics....how to quell his rhetoric is not a "liberal" issue....He so easily makes issues black and white and alienates those in the middle in the process....I hope neither Rush nor Cheney ever shut up...the continual reminder of who and what they are will keep the middle moving further away from the right and more to the right center and the Republicans cannot seem to find a right center leader within their ranks....and if they do Rush will crucify whoever that person is....It has become quite the train wreck!....

I don't know, why are you conservatives so intent on believing liberals are obsessed with Limbaugh?

After all, every recent story has been criticisms of him by your own, including this story.

We're just laughing at the sideshow.

OrionTheWolf -> RE: Ridge takes aim at Limbaugh (5/25/2009 6:18:39 AM)

~FR~

Someone needs to take aim at the extremist that hijacked the Republican party long ago. It is one of the reasons I left, and I am now an independent.

Imagine, RML, that every time one of our local left-leaning rational posters said something, it was demanded that they answer for the posts of one of our left-leaning completely irrational posters.  Regardless of topic.  Regardless of whether the consistently smart and rational poster even read, or knew of, the comment from the consistently rabid poster.

I'm a wee bit grumpy this morning, RML, so let me know if you can visualize the tables being turned in a smaller venue, before I try moving on with this.

Sanity -> RE: Ridge takes aim at Limbaugh (5/25/2009 8:20:01 AM)

How about this one - several Liberals have criticized Barack Obama for a lot of different things. I guess that must mean that Barack Obama is a two-headed monster who eats babies and old people, and is someone who every Liberal needs to immediately disavow.

Why not? Same logic.

Not really even close to the same logic, Sanity
