Pain tolerance is something you can work up.  Even in a given play session.  Pain is fundamentally your body's way of saying that some kind of "hurt" has occurred.  The more you practice the more you can build it up, because the more accustomed your body gets to whatever pain it is.  In a given play session the peaks and valleys approach is good, which should let you get to higher and higher levels of pain.  Practice in time will help you tolerate pain physically.

There's also a strong psychological element to pain tolerance which is really only up to your mind.  That is purely up to you and your willingness to tolerate pain.  Pain is essentially information.  It's your body's response to something that could be a problem for it, nothing more.  You can definitely psych yourself up to take more pain.  The combination of the two should really raise your overall pain tolerance.

Thx everyone who contributed, some really great info.  Over time, and with the right Domme, i hope to workup to some heavy style play.  [:)]

Just curious, as I always am, as to why you insist on your style of play being heavy pain sessions?  I don't really think it proves anything.  I need what I need.  It really has nothing to do with my "style" of play or anything else.  I know I am presuming things you did not necessarily present, but I am just wondering why it is you aspire to this is all.
