While anything is better than nothing, I wouldn't recommend he expend his energy just reading. Hell, I could watch all the porn in the world of someone making love and it wouldn't be worth more than just doing it once with someone new.
Hence, I'd suggest finding a local place that caters to the Dom. There are plenty in my area, e.g., www.thegatessm.com for example, where for a puny $150 an hour, you can Dom any gorgeous woman you find. You can string 'em up and spank 'em and tie em to the table and nipple clamp their tits, whatever you want (you agree ahead of time as they are always professional).
Do that, ten or twelve times with five or six women, and you'll have a handy start. To me, that's much better than reading about it. Hell, then post an ad in Craigslist and tell 'em that you're a beginner Dom looking for a beginner sub. You'll have two or three responses, most of which will be spam, but, if you put about ten ads, you'll get one or two real responses a week, which is all you need (yes, I know the ratios are much different for women than for men on these ad things).
Then, after "playing" with five or six women in the span of five or six months, you'll be a damn expert ... telling US how to do it! Try it. Write back and let me know how it works out. Then, you can read all about it. </IMHO>
