FriskyBiscuit -> Bad Poetry (5/29/2009 5:28:27 AM)

Here is a good topic for heated arguement i'm sure. What does BDSM have to do with bad poetry. Over the years i've read some whoppers of bad poetry and imagery on profiles. I'm sure there is a good book idea there. The Bad poetry of BDSMers..lol

Fitznicely -> RE: Bad Poetry (5/29/2009 5:34:06 AM)

There once was a subbie from Ealing
Who hung all the time from the ceiling
One day, just by chance
She fell into a trance
Now her Dom has a very interesting chandelier

Ahahaha. Freakin' brilliant.

Trust me, as someone who runs an undergraduate writing workshop, bad poetry is just as prevalent elsewhere.

I like spanking girls
Thwack, swoosh, thud. Music from My cane
Bend over, ladies.

What you consider bad, someone may consider brilliant.  I see it this way...They atleast have the guts to put a talent out there for the world to see.  What about you?

Some people's talent should be kept firmly behind bars. I present my previous posts as proof of this

It goes beyond bad poetry. People I don't know email me terribly written BDSM D/s stories. <shudder>

I saw it as an attempt at humor.

Absolutely seconded.

[even in "Advanced Writing Workshop" and among Professional Writing majors]

Haven't you noticed that buildings housing governments like our Federal and State Houses of Parliament have bars on windows?

Being a poet of dubious skill, I can offer some of my works for said book Frisky

Lockit -> RE: Bad Poetry (5/29/2009 11:19:39 AM)

I met a famous song writer who was just given a life time achievement award.  We talked about writing, the business and many things that first night and a couple after.  He said... I can write you a song in ten minutes, but that doesn't mean it would be a good one.  Even the best can write crap, don't let that fool ya, because when they aren't writing crap, they are creating things many enjoy.

i think that the poor grammar and writing skills permeate everywhere, not just through poetry and stories. Hell, there's been some profiles that i've read that i could only read a couple of paragraphs because my brain started to hurt - insert blonde joke here - and i couldn't continue and maintain my happy mood. Idiocy tends to irritate me. It's always the little things too, like i seem to remember that there is to, too, and two (using the number 2 as a substitute for these words doesn't help any, either). The last of the three obviously doesn't get confused as much as the first two do but for some reason, not knowing the difference between to and too drives me mad. As does the misuse of the words: their, there, they're; your, you're etc. Using single letters for whole words is right up there too. As well as a complete lack of punctuation.

i went to public school and they taught me all sorts of neato stuff, you don't need some fancy schmancy private school education just to learn how to properly form a sentence and paragraph.

In regards to the stories, i've been sent some awful stories as well. Or,  i would be sent a 3 page long paragraph and that throws me too.

My favorite is when i'm "ordered" by a Dom to write down a fantasy and turn it into him in two hours...it takes me over two weeks to write a story (at a minimum) because the ones that i write are actual short stories and end up being ten to twenty pages long. Especially if it's something i've been thinking on for quite some time and i have a lot of ideas and i just roll with it. Other times it's less than ten pages but, still lengthy. They get all mad at me when i ask for guidance on what they want me to write and then tell me to figure it out. Some even refuse to speak to me until *after* i've sent it to them and then chide me on doing it wrong. i like to think they (the stories) have been pretty good even if i get in "trouble" for not doing it they way they wanted it, i've got a very vivid and active imagination and i'm pretty good at expressing my thoughts coherently. So, that way even if they don't like it, i do and then i save it and share it with others.

So when Master would whip,  kay would quip ....
"i promise to do what you SAY!"

LOL, ok if you don't like it....its from an anonymous author LOL

(it was just off the top off my head, so what the hell)

LafayetteLady -> RE: Bad Poetry (5/30/2009 1:03:47 PM)

Never been big on the poetry, stories or the like on profiles.  Seems to be screaming, "look at me, look at me, I's a deep indivgul"  I always wonder if the guy goes around spouting poetry or analogies all day long waiting for some poor sub to provide an explanation of the deep meanings he is trying to convey.

I'm sure that I have just insulted many, but that's what I think.  In a profile I want to read about likes and dislikes, and have no desire to try to extrapolate that information from something else.

As for the bad grammar and spelling and all of that.  It drives me nuts!  If I am chatting with someone in IM, it doesn't bother me at all, because it is conversational and since I type about 70 words a minute, many have difficulty keeping up and some have even complained that they feel they are taking too long to answer.  However, if you are writing your profile, sending me an email or posting on the forums, I think that people should take the time to make sure that their thoughts are flowing clearly, that the spelling is correct, no short cuts and complete sentences.  Yes, Lockit, the "dotting" from thought to thought makes me crazy.  But since you usually are saying something insightful or amusing, yours don't bother as much.  Most people who are doing that aren't forming cohesive thoughts either.

As for when the spelling and grammar and generally bad writing is in the forums, I have found that often the people who are doing that also aren't taking the time to fully form their thoughts either, just kind of ambling along hoping to hit on something insightful.
