Its 6AM. I have not been able to sleep all night. My UMs are waking up. I have a full day with them, including a run to the store and helping a 4th grader create some sort of "project" on skunks and teaching the other (autistic) how to download stuff to his new MP3 player.....FML

I looked up FML and got Ferret Mailing List

Arpig...i can sympathize..a full day and a lack of sleep is the norm around here.
But...the time with the little ones is precious.

ok...a school project about a skunk is perhaps less than precious...but you know what i mean.

Arpig, is your autistic person able to read?

I have an adult brother who is autistic, severely mentally retarded, bipolar, and schizophrenic who lives with me.  He learned to surf the internet by repetative action by someone that was able to teach him, and written direction.

The beginning directions went something like:

click click with pointer finger on mouse on blue e for Internet Explorer
click file
click open
type www.wesh.com  (it's a news station in Orlando, FL that he liked watching the weatherpeople on when we lived in FL)

he would then click on various links, and eventually learned that if he typed in the appropriate URL, he could look at almost anything he wants.

You probably already have a certain pattern that he learns best with in place, but I thought I'd share what works for us.

No unfortunatly he isn't all that good at reading. He uses the internet quite extensively, but he needs to prepare a list of things to type into google, which is usually done by asking for help (at the most inappropriate times, like right now he suddenly decided that he wants to know how many bodies were found in Pompeii....oy!! the questions he comes up with!)

LOL, I know what you mean.

Fortunately, my bro likes to look at OLD tv shows in the internet.  How he finds them... well bless his heart.  By old, Charlie's Angels, The Muppet Babies cartoon, Dynasty, Dallas.... etc.

He also makes his gift wish lists courtesy of Amazon.com.  He will print pictures out of the EXACT items he wants for Christmas, his birthday, or just for because he wants it.  He never uses the item, but he wants it.(It drives me crazy sometimes.  A $100 basketball just sitting and collecting dust. I must be made out of money or something)

Has he figured out how to put his music in the mp3 player yet?

In the excavations the remains of about 2,000 people out of the 20,000 people that lived in Pompeii have been found in the excavations. Some of the victims were trapped in their homes and killed by hot ashes. Others breathed the poisonous fumes and died as they ran away. Archaeologists found moulds of the bodies preserved in the hardened ash. It was not lava that destroyed the city, showers of hot, wet ashes and cinders rained down on Pompeii and as these dried, they covered and sealed most of the city. There are numerous moulds of people in their final moments

Thanks, MsFlutter. I am getting pretty good at looking up weird stuff in a hurry.
Just an update on the day....the gluten-free waffles were a bust (totally gross), shopping done ($10 of arts/crafts supplies), skunk project completed, trip to the park done (ice cream included), movie for this evening selected (Anaconda II...they are both boys, what can I say), dinner started. We didn't get to the mp3 player yet, but we may yet this evening, if not then tomorrow before heading back to their mother's. It started out rainy here today, but turned out quite nice and sunny, so all in all a good day, but damn I am tired, my poor eyes are so dry and tired, ah well only another 5 hours till they are both in bed and I can crash

quicky idea here: i know it's hard to find a good gluten free bread, but if you can, make french toast with it, then pop it into your waffle maker. it'll get the brittle crust and those dippity holes that hold the syrup so nicely!! not the same taste as waffles, but better than the ones you had, most likely, lol

Wow!!! that's a great idea! There is a little bakery a few blocks from my place that makes a gluten-free bread that the UM really likes. I think I will try that. I don't have a waffle iron, the ones I bought were frozen toaster waffles (so the odds were against them being really good to begin with), but french toast itself is delicious, and smothered in syrup....yum! thanks.

And Greedy....LOL! FYL!! I check it at least once a day, and usually 3-4 times, I love it.

I left it with the Ex, seeing as she had the kids, I figured she had more use for it, however I don't think she uses it at all, so maybe I will see if she still has it and is willing to part with it....no reason to pay for one if I don't have to (yeah I am cheap, so sue me)
