Danibelle -> Changing your play style during the summer (6/1/2009 8:40:59 AM)

I did a few searches for this topic but either it was phrased differently or it hasn't been addressed directly.

I'm curious to know how many of you live in areas that are significantly warmer in the summer than the winter.  For example, I live in NYC and it's quite cold in the winter and uncomfortably hot and humid in the summer.  For those who do, do you change your play style in the summer?  Do you cut out certain activities that may leave marks that wouldn't be hidden at the beach or a pool party?  Do you just change the location on the body?

I currently have a very large bruise that wouldn't be a problem at all to cover in the winter, but is proving a challenge to cover now.

For those who live in warmer climates and encounter this problem far more frequently, what is your solution?

This topic really only applies to bruises you don't want showing.  I don't mind the noticeable bruise usually, but not at work and not in certain situations.

No, not really; I couldn't care less if people who were on the beach saw a bruise.  I have been mildly concerned about work settings and recently have been taking martial arts classes but for work, I'd cover it (Unless it's on my face which would be a problem unto itself), it's coverable.  In class, I would probably laugh it off as some 'fun battle damage' as that would be accurate.

Well, if I had a partner to play with, anyway... the only change in play for the summer would be.... Adding in some middle-of-the-woods play. (While I like the cold generally, playing outside when it's slightly chilly or colder, I don't think would work as well).

Fnord.

As far as people seeing bruises or cuts or whatever, I wouldn't care really.

Though it doesn't work for everyone, I've had good luck on my own bruise-prone areas using a cream like "cold cream" (my preference is Yes to Cucumbers Cucumber Body Butter or Arnica Oil) on the area where it seems that a bruise might come up. Gentle, frequent moisturizing of the area with certain creams and oils seems to reduce the inflammation and subcutaneous bleeding associated with bruising.  In many cases, especially for deep bruises, using the anti-inflammatory creams (along with using oral arnica 30c [surface bruising or LOTS of bruising] or 200c [a few deep bruises] for the trauma rather than aspirin or ibuprofen, both of which can increase subcutaneous bleeding, and therefore cause more bruising) improve the incidence of bruises being kept "under wraps". Using cold-packs and elevation on areas prone to bruising also help to alleviate some of the immediate inflammation and reduce the appearance of bruises.

Rope marks are a problem during summer. He sent me in to change out of shorts into long pants when we had 80 degrees last week. The rope marks take a couple of hours to subside and he heard the car come up the driveway before I did. I don't want that conversation with my daughter, she'd tease me forever after once she'd become okay with it and that would take a while.

LadyPact -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/1/2009 1:39:51 PM)

In a sense, I do.  My sub happens to be military, so I have to restrict putting bruises on areas that will show on areas of skin not covered by a summer PT uniform.  The rest of him is still free game, so I really don't mind.  I have more difficulty in restraining Myself from biting the back of his neck.  LOL.

littlewonder -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/1/2009 2:55:29 PM)

No we don't. I'm never concerned about bruises or marks.

I'm a year round klutz and I always have cuts and bruises anyway. People have become extremely used to seeing me with marks even when I was single.

Plus I don't think people are all that nosey and are just too busy with their own lives to give any care whatsoever to others.

BKSir -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/1/2009 3:00:02 PM)

Very much so.  I'm alergic to UV-B rays, break out in a really nasty rash, so outside during the day is a no go.  I overheat and dehydrate at the drop of a hat, 80 deg. + temps, also a no go.  So things are toned down quite a bit during the hot times of year.  Which my pet hates, as he's just the opposite... one of those hot weather lovers...  Sun and hot, he's all over it.

Bruises and what not though, he is terribly clumsy and gets bruises without my help.  I hate it.  I don't want blemishes on my pet...  But, not much one can do about it when they manage to fall UP the stairs on a regular basis. >.<

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/1/2009 3:11:42 PM)

I never thought about this at all!  I work most during the winter, so I am pretty much going wild in the summer...

BitaTruble -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/1/2009 4:28:05 PM)

Living in Portugal with pretty much year round mild weather has been a joy after the long, cold winters in MN. This is a good topic and if it were possible for me to actually bruise anymore, I probably 'would' take such things into consideration. Most of Sirs favorite play areas on me are covered up no matter what the weather though. You'll just have to guess which areas those are. lol

LPslittleclip -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/1/2009 7:01:53 PM)

as my M'lady said I'm in the military so during the summer i have to restrict play in areas not covered by t-shirt and shorts. it just means different target areas for play. it is hard for M'lady not to bite my neck as i so enjoy it as well as She does.

ExSteelAgain -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/1/2009 7:22:28 PM)

Sure that's a factor. I've been asked not to leave bruises or marks in certain areas in summer due to revealing clothes. It's something to keep in mind. It would be embarrassing for a woman to have lash marks on her upper back on the beach, to say the least.

breatheasone -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/1/2009 9:00:34 PM)

i have really crappy lungs(c.o.p.d. and asthma) and i live in the south, so summers SUCK balls for me. i can't breath for crap when its humid, and if i go in and out of air conditioning and the outside it irritates my lungs...so that does effect Our play somewhat.

HollywoodExecDom -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/2/2009 5:07:02 PM)

I always wonder why some people look for answers to questions that are this individualistic... are you looking for other people to be like "oh bruises in a bathing suit are fine" so you can go back to your sub and be like "Sorry you were over ruled, the board has spoken???"

Clearly, that's an individual decision. Personally, I wouldn't want to bruise a sub if she was going to a big party with friends in a bikini the next day - because frankly I don't want minds imagining the worst - that I'm some horrible abuser, when the bruises were merely the result of basic rough sex and consensual spanking / riding crop / kinkiness etc.

So the answer - What do you think??? Do you want to have your sub going out with a ton of bruises at a public pool party? Or a family pool party? Or an office beach party? If you're fine with it, carry on. If you're like me and don't want to give certain people the wrong idea, don't.

But yes, I do change my play during the summer....

We did keep away with the bathing suit in the pool the other day and a bondage session on the chaise lounge....

One thing to take away from it:

Handcuffs left in the hot sun should not be picked up with bare hands.

I don't really know why you think I'm looking for an "ok" for ANYONE.  I was simply wondering if people like me, who live in areas where the weather changes drastically from winter to summer, ALSO change things.

Also, I was speaking of bruises on MYSELF, not someone else.

I also was not speaking of only bathing suits.  General summer wear really.

We've done both things I've mentioned: cutting out specific activities entirely AND simply ruling out certain body parts.  Also, we're far more aware of our schedules and what we have to do that particular week when we play.  Thinking about bruising is just something I don't have to do in the winter when I wear long sleeves and pants daily.

But thank you for your advice on not picking up hot metal.

Thats definetly me!  I'm wearing some pretty colorful  bruised right now, and all of them are klutz inflicted, not from Master :P

silkncarol -> RE: Changing your play style during the summer (6/3/2009 2:40:09 AM)

I've been thinking about this question lately....i've been spending days by the pool here,  now that summer is upon us i've started going to the nude beach.....small bruises wouldn't be a problem but major bruising on the ass or breasts would definitely raise a few eyebrows.  Thats alot more info on my personal life i'd rather not put out there.

That's what the hip and pecs are for.

We haven't changed anything. What happens between us is much more important than wearing a swimsuit for a dip in the pool....
