I'm one of the guys who feels a certain avuncular attraction for Marilyn. She was such an unhappy soul, yet incredibly photogenic. There's a bit of a backstory about the munitions plant gig where she was "discovered". Turns out that Reginald Denny- a well known actor from the 30s was into aviation- which included model aviation. Model airplanes didn't have the geek factor that came along in the 60s or so- there were lots of actors ranging from Jimmy Stewart to Henry Fonda who built and flew model airplanes. Reginald Denny even designed airplanes (Dennyplane) and had a factory building model airplane engines (aka Dennymites). When the war broke out, being a patriotic soul, he offered his services and scaled up his models a little bit to become target drones. The name of the factory was Radio Pane Munitions (IIRC) and the shot that featured Norma Jean was posed, but involved her putting a propeller on an airplane. In my book, making target drones doesn't really count as munitions, now does it? Let that be another lesson in the accuracy of the press. Clearly there's another reason I'm fond of her- I'm an airplane nut. Anybody wanna bet that Reginald Denny had a hand in getting her career launched? Sam
