An Arkansas man accused of a shooting at a Little Rock military center in which one soldier was killed and another was wounded pleaded not guilty during an arraignment Tuesday, authorities said. Abdulhakim Bledsoe, 23, of Little Rock faces a first-degree murder charge and 16 counts of engaging in a terrorist act, Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas said. The terrorist counts stem from the shots fired at an occupied building. Bledsoe is being held without bail. The suspect is a Muslim convert who has also gone by Carlos Bledsoe and Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad. http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/06/02/arkansas.recruiter.shooting/?iref=mpstoryview From reading this, the act of terrorism is not the shooting, but the attack on a building housing people, not the individuals. Sadly, each religion inherits " nutjobs ". I wonder if the CM members and society as a whole will be as willing to denounce and vilify " Islam" as they have been in the Christian Terrorist thread about Christians. For me, just as with the Doctor killer, this is a *murderer,* who happens to have a religious background and has lost sight of what that religion teaches. I am waiting to see what, if anything, our President has to say on this matter. He was quick to reply to the killing of Dr.Tiller. mbmbn

Don't worry... there will never be the same outrage for american soldiers getting killed as there is for terrorists getting "tortured" in gitmo. I wonder if this act will lead to christian terrorists recruitment as gitmo did for islamists. Since philosophy was so quick to point out that there are so many christian terrorists in the US.

As do I, philosophy. I tend not to label their race, religious beliefs or other such stuff that really has nothing to do with the act. Terrorist or terrorism infers an organized group of people with a common agenda of inflicting fear and harm on it's " enemies". One thinks of training camps, an oraganizational structure to the terrorists gang, caches of weapons, plots and schemes being worked out to do what ever deed they have in mind. That may not be the absolute definition, but that is what the inference is to many/most people. In the case of the man who killed Dr. Tiller and this man who killed the soldiers, it was an individual act, without backing from any organized anything. < by all accounts known>. That makes it murder to me, not terrorism. mbmbn

if one belongs to a religion that wages jihad on the us, and it's soldiers, and he is part of that religion, then i would say that is an organized group. i don't think christians have waged a holy war on muslims or abortion doctors just yet.

Oh contare DK, we do know a little somthing about him. He traveled to Yemen, using a Somali passport. He was arrested in Yemen for this. He studied Jihad under an Islamic scolar while in Yemen. He has been on the FBI' terrorist watch list for a while. Does that make him part of an organized terrorist group, not at the moment. By all accounts he acted alone, but he certainly has roots to extremists. What I find so sad in this is that our President has not come out and offered his sympathies to the surviving soldier and the dead soldier's family and assured them all would be done to bring this criminal to justice, as he did immediately following the murder of Dr. Tiller. That pisses me off more than anything else. Commander in Chief, my ass. mbmbn

I've checked every post you've ever made and didn't find any outrage on the subject. BTW just so you know SoP is for the President to do that sort of thing directly to survivors of servicemen not by press release.

I don't recall any threads here of the murder of a soldier on US soil by a civilian. I may have missed them. I do remember one soldier in Detroit being killed just after he had just returned from Iraq. Not sure if it was a thread here or not. Not sure if I was even a member then. So let's not play the GWB card. I wasn't a fan of his either. Nice try tho. [;)] I do however, remember President Clinton speaking out about finding those responsible for the people who bombed the USS Cole and offering his support to the families. And the same with a few other attacks on US Soldiers/bases during his reign. I don't think there is an unwritten rule that Presidents only offer support behind closed doors. mbmbn

And, FYI, the closest English translation of jihad is "struggle", particularly the struggle with one's own iman, translated most closely to "faith". "Holy War" has nothing to do with it, and Christians historically have had that strongest dibs on that. At last count, there were a hell of a lot more Christians killing abortion doctors than Muslims and Jews combined. This is why someone cleverly coined the bumpersticker "God, please protect me from your followers." Religion is beautiful, it is people who are ugly. I certainly didn't haul my puppies off to the pound when Berkowitz said "The dog made me do it." It's easy in that instance to see that it is the individual who is flawed, and not a far stretch in my mind from the current subject.

should i add... right now. maybe you should look up the history of muslims as well. everyone in the west points at christians as the bad guys, because really all we are taught is our own history. we aren't taught in school about the wars in islam. we are taught about the salem witch trails, but not about women being stoned for talking to a man.
