My only contact with UPS has been when they were to deliver something to me from someone in the States and they somehow managed to deliver it to an address in Germany not once, but twice which meant it took five months for a package to get from Mississippi to London.

Oh and Jonnieboy, FYI we have a UK equivalent, it's called Royal Mail Parcelforce. Some of these drivers I swear failed the UPS entrance test.

ahhh- but they do look nice in the shorts.

I hate phone menus.   I wish I could put one on my phone.  I STILL get calls for Tina.   ....mom tried to order a widget from a company one of my  brothers work for.    she wasnt able to figure it out- so he tried it.   he said after wards- that he is amazed they have any customers.

and yes- I am a lunitic by the time I reach a live person.   !!  I hate when the expect me to talk to a machine.  then the parrot screatches and the menu sends me back to square 1.

ATT wireless comes to mind.    ..luckily- I no longer need them.

I get plenty of deliveries-  I have no complaints with any of them.

Try the USPS. "They deliver"

Rhi,

I have had mixed success with them and would definately go with Fed Ex if shipping something of real value. Do file a complaint and take your business elsewhere.

what about DHL?

hizgeorgiapeach -> RE: UPS must hire nothing but incompitant turds (6/3/2009 11:24:48 PM)

For other business, I do primarily go with FedEx and DHL.  Unfortunately, for this in particular, the shipping company wasn't up to me - I wan't offered any options, simply told that it would be shipped via next day.  Fortunately when I called back because the replacement arrived ruined, they assured me they would NOT be using UPS for the second replacement fone in 3 days.

IMHO the US Postal Service is the best shipping company.  I've sold quite a few things online over the years and never had a problem with them.  Depending on the speed of delivery needed, I either use their Priority Mail or Express Mail.  Their rates are almost always cheaper than the rest, and the service top-notch.  I'm especially fond of their new flat rate Priority boxes.

MsFlutter -> RE: UPS must hire nothing but incompitant turds (6/4/2009 3:19:56 AM)

In our area, UPS is awesome, FedEx is borderline incompetent and the USPS doesnt rate even as 'barely adequate' on their best day. We've had the same UPS guy for 10 yrs. He works his 8ss off and makes sure we meet his replacement driver anytime he goes on vacation.

I havent really had a problem with UPS, except up in NYC, not really their fault but because I could hear the buzzer which even in that tiny apt was hard to hear unless you were totally listening hard.  There was a couple of times that if I didnt answer, they would just ring the super and leave a note it was there. A couple of times they just didnt deliver.

One thing that will assure if you can, if you have a order note, as for signed only, they cant drop and run.

I have memory coming today but its via Fed Ex so far show delivery by 3pm.

Plus I always get a routhing number if its by alt delivery other than usps.  That way I cant track and know that it is in fact out for delivery, and if there is a problem I can call customer service.

Not so thrilled by DLH but is ordering from other places, they use their delivery service and once it goes through customs, alot will transfer to DHL I have found.

Hell long as I can get it Im happy.

Plus having 2 akitas especially Ms Keiko, there is no one that can get to the door before she notices. LOL

what about DHL?

That's a joke, right? We had a contract with DHL where I work. Much of what we send out is in the form of things like grants, contracts, and other assorted paperwork, and we send out -thousands- of pieces a day. Well, a year ago, they ditched the DHL contract... why, you ask, since DHL is -clearly- the least expensive method of shipping aside from the USPS? Well, it turns out that somehow, they didn't always find it necessary to actually -deliver- random pools of their shipments. Over 15,000 pieces of undelivered mail, including medical records, grants, contracts, and other legal documents, and including thousands of pieces of "registered" shipments that were paid off for non-delivery were found in a local DHL warehouse during a routine inspection prior to contract re-negotiations. Talk about DUMB!

BrokenSaint -> RE: UPS must hire nothing but incompitant turds (6/4/2009 9:27:14 AM)

The only problem I've ever had with them is leaving things out in an obviously bad place, and then it getting stolen. Just a few months ago ordering some new playtoys they were stolen off the porch, even though UPS was given specific instructions not to leave the package if I no one was home. Eventually after their quite long claims process they paid to replace the stolen items. Probably the best part of the entire thing was the cops face when I explained the package contained among other things my shiny new riding crop. Almost worth it.

GreedyTop -> RE: UPS must hire nothing but incompitant turds (6/4/2009 9:28:19 AM)

Not a joke, Calla.. I've had ver limited experience with DHL, and those experiences were fine.  I was simply offering an option.

When the value of a package exceeds a minimum value (not sure where the threshold is these days) you  (the sender) can make a signature mandatory for delivery. They will then make a maximum of three delivery attempts. If they cannot contact the receiver it will be held for 7 days at the nearest distribution warehouse where the receiver (will be notified) can pick it up. After that it will be returned to the sender.

On another note though.....here's a UPS Delivery to see....[sm=m23.gif]

I like this one better :)

SavageFaerie -> RE: UPS must hire nothing but incompitant turds (6/5/2009 8:52:26 AM)

Fed Ex yesterday did the same thing..luckily poen was watching out for them because the package contained memory for my laptop.

By the time I got to the door. No they didnt knock, he had dropped it in front of the door, during pouring rain. No signature, no nothing.

So it isnt just UPS.

pahunkboy -> RE: UPS must hire nothing but incompitant turds (6/5/2009 1:11:13 PM)

be nice to the mail man.   under executive order the post master assigns everyone in the town a duty in event of a national emergency.

Lorr47 -> RE: UPS must hire nothing but incompitant turds (6/6/2009 1:32:37 AM)

I had a business once that was highly time sensitive.  About the tenth time the UPS driver said that he could not make a delivery, I blew up.  On the date set for a delivery I sat in front of the door for 10 hours.  To make sure he did not show up during a short bathroom break,  I did not shovel a portion of the sidewalk so I could see footsteps in the snow.

The UPS driver never showed up.  I called and the receptionist said that the driver noted that he could not make delivery because no one was there.  I told her in no uncertain terms what I had done and she placed me on hold.  When she came back she related that the driver said the streets were too bad.  I placed the secretary and partner on the line and they called him a liar. I was placed on hold again.  When she came back she offered another bogus excuse.  Finally at the end of about five excuses she laughed and said "Steve is a free spirit and dances to his own drummer."  I asked if she, UPS, and Steve wanted to be sued because I had documented this instance fairly well.  She did not like that statement much and said she would pass on the complaint.

That night I drove out to the UPS terminal to get the paperwork that was supposed to be delivered that day.  There were about eight others there.  As we talked among ourselves we found out that six of us were on Steve's route.  Apparently Steve had not delivered anything that day.  We filed a joint complaint and I asked the supervisor what would happen.  He responded that with luck Steve would be transferred to another route.  He responded that UPS had a problem disciplining workers.  They were members of the teamsters union.

From that day on I never used UPS and never purchased items from anyone who shipped by UPS. There were some companies who would not sell to me because I would not allow UPS personnel on the premises.  Fed Ex worked out well and was not unionized and the United States Postal Service was acceptable.
