Thanks all for your advice. I doubt I'll wait a year to do this...not my style.
I'm a stick and move type of gal once I make up my mind.

Shortly after my 40th birthday, I made an appointment to have a tat done (scheduled for Oct. 17, 2003). Some unknown forces (mainly my ex) stepped in preventing me from going (spent the night in jail instead...another new experience).

The design i have in mind has never changed. My reasons for wanting it have changed. This Oct. 17th, i have a feeling i will be spending the evening with a tat artist...the design and my reasons for wanting it have become one in the same.

Point being, if you want it and are comfortable with it....go for it! If i had done it three years ago, i would be just as happy about it then as i am now...

We'd love to see a picture when you get it Aileen68.
I've always wanted a lil rose on my breast or butt, but am far too scared of needles on myself to ever actually do something about it. [:D] M

Well, I'm no longer a tattoo virgin.  I got my first one this afternoon.
I decided to do a small one on the back of my neck.
It's Kanji lettering for the word joy.
I love it!
Still working on my design for my lower back....finalizing it.
Getting it closer and closer to the image in my head.
I'm so hooked.

Phoenixandnika -> RE: Gonna get a tat (5/15/2006 2:16:03 PM)

I have 3 tattoos will eventually have more.
I know many who at a point in their lives decide to get ink work. Sometimes it is simply a way to remember someone or a situation. People get ink work for all kinds of reasons, I once saw a friend tattoo a 63 yr old woman her and her granddaughter where getting the same thing done. Hummingbirds they said it was signifying growing their wings. . It was strange to see in ways but it was liberating in many ways aswell.

I think it is something you should consider carefully and I like the idea of carrying around the artwork you want done for a period of time. Since learning about hemp tattoos I would also suggest getting it done that way first, live with it, then go from there. It could give you relasitic idea of who it would look and how you and others would react to it.

Yup...hooked.
I'll have my second definitely by end of June.
Then the third, the fourth....

SpankMuhButt -> RE: Gonna get a tat (5/15/2006 2:17:52 PM)

Ohhh congrats Aileen, I just read the post that said you went and did it lol

Phoenixandnika -> RE: Gonna get a tat (5/15/2006 2:21:16 PM)

I love ink work my next will cover my enter back.

I know many people who are hooked, several friends who are working on covering from head to toe.

I would love Phoenix to get one but he HATES needles so I doubt that will ever happen.

I am glad you are happy with what you got done.
Most people do not wait a yr to get them done. *laughs*
Heck in fact many are impulse ink seekers!

Blessed Be,
Nika

I love tattoos.  My best advice is to wait a while and make sure you're getting something you can live with in five years.  I'm sure quite a few of you have heard my tat sob story about getting the Aerosmith logo emblazoned on my lower back.  I regret that one.  The one on my arm, three little stars, I love.  I thought about that one for quite a while, though.  I'd recommend doing a henna one that lasts a month or so to get a feel for it first.

Make sure it's something you love and good luck!

SweetSarijane -> RE: Gonna get a tat (5/15/2006 5:34:48 PM)

Welcome to the world of tatts lol. I have 2 and love them both and have basic ideas for 3 more that I need to get just right before I have them done. Both the ones I have and the ones I plan on getting have special meaning and signifigance for me.

MstrssPassion -> RE: Gonna get a tat (5/15/2006 7:10:09 PM)

Several ladies came into the shop where I was getting my lower back piece done & decided against there original plan of small... there is a picture of this on my profile. (2nd pic)

At the highest point it is nearly mid waist & the tip goes right down to the end of my tail bone.

FYI... the only spots that caused me to flinch a bit was the upper most curls near my waist line & the fringes that reached my cheeks. Everywhere else was just fine.

I have another higher up across my shoulder blade... that one hurt like a mother until the outlining was done.

Can't say that either of mine were a mid-life thing since I am just reaching that point in life & I have had these tattoos for 6 & 20 yrs.

Ditto that!  If I'd gotten the one I wanted when I was 18, at the age of 18, I'd be hating it now.  Instead, I got my first one at 36, and I love it.  Got my second one (after begging for about four years) at 46, and I love that one even more, because Master designed it Himself (the design will also eventually be woven into a rug - handmade by me - for our foyer, too).  There are two or three or six more I'd like to have, but we'll never talk Him into getting one for Himself.

Lashra -> RE: Gonna get a tat (5/15/2006 8:03:17 PM)

My sub has tats and I am a tattoo virgin [:D] We are both getting matching tattoos this summer. I designed it from things we both love.. dragons with wings, his metal collar, my chain leash and a BDSM emblem.

Absolutely. I've been planning some pretty serious work for awhile now. I've known since the first one that I was going to end up with guite a bit of work.

Glad you had a good experience, Aileen.
